Do not double major in Aero and Astro. It is nearly impossible, unless you validate a ton of classes, give up all of your summer leave to take classes, and overload your academic schedule most semesters. Trust me on this one.

I'm one of those weird people that got a VP nomination. I received an LOA on 19 April 2013, a nomination from the VP a couple of days later, then an appointment on 26 April. It can happen!

It means you received nominations from Congressman Woodall, and from the President. Does not mean you have been appointed, but it's a great step!

I am a current USAFA cadet (C3C) and received a VP Nomination. Yes, you really do simply have to submit the online application. For your own SA though, The Academy has a large say in who gets the VP Nom. It usually goes to a candidate they want to accept but who doesn't have another nomination...

There's a class called Reading Skills, which you can opt to take while you're at USAFA. I took it last fall, during the first semester of my freshman year. I went from reading at 900 words per minute to close to 2500 wpm. It definitely helps!:thumb:

To clarify the issue regarding contacting your cadet, they will have their laptops as of early August and those are not taken away from them (considering that they use them for school), so e-mail and OovoO are easy to use. Phones are a hit or miss. I had mine last A-Day, but there's no guarantee...

If you're like me and actually like notebooks that don't fall apart, I recommend shipping some to yourself prior to basic. You won't be able to pick up packages during BCT but it'll be waiting for you as soon as you're done. Either that or order them after, but the mailroom is known to get...

You'll know what squadron you're in a week or two before basic (because that affects your reporting time on I-Day). You'll only know what flight you're in after you've arrived at the Academy and gotten past the footprints.
