There's a class called Reading Skills, which you can opt to take while you're at USAFA. I took it last fall, during the first semester of my freshman year. I went from reading at 900 words per minute to close to 2500 wpm. It definitely helps!
DS gave it a full thumbs up.
Said it saved him some time and comprehension improved too.
DD gives it a partial thumbs up.
She found the most interesting part the analysis of how she reads (for example, some folks read ahead then bounce back without realizing they do). Some improvement in speed but at one point she was thinking she would rather have dropped it for more study time.
My DS will be starting the class soon. It will be interesting to see what he says about it. The reading portion of the ACT was his nemesis with his high score being a 26.
He said he had no issues with the content and felt he answered all the questions he had time to read correctly but would have at least 9 questions he had to guess on due to running out of time.
