Army ROTC 2023-2024 2nd Board

The monetary investment in 3 and 4 year ROTC scholarships isn't unlike the similar investment in kids at Service Academies. The data is there and they understand a % will drop out/flunk out etc. I feel that is all in the model. Your comments about 3 vs 4 year ROTC scholarships are very interesting because the 1st year of ROTC participation (tuition) is not paid for and the cadet can be evaluated and screened on their potential before the larger money is laid out. The question in my mind is: 1. Would CC be able to attain their numbers if there were only 3 year scholarships and 2. Would the caliber of students that would normally receive a 4 yr still be available if only 3 yr scholarships existed? Those kids have the resume to do alot of different things so they have many choices. The sad part is that as college costs increase, more and more ROTC scholarship applicants will use "cost" as a major contributing factor as opposed to their desire to serve and lead in the military.
I would be interested to know: When a 3yr winner gets on campus in year 1 and participates in ROTC , what are the minimum standards they need to achieve to keep that 3yr scholarship? Did you see a significant weeding out prior to the 2nd year when the Army is on the hook for the cost of the scholarship? I would assume (like service academies) the highest drop out/weed out % comes in the first year.
I agree here. 4 year winners have a lot of opportunities. My MS2 son has been positively developed as a cadet by ROTC. I asked him how many cadets have washed out in first 3 semesters between all 5 schools (counting crosstowns) and he said just one. He has been recognized by his cadre for his potential as a leader already. He also was accepted and offered scholarships at a long list of prestigious schools. So if not for the 4 year I am not sure where he would have landed. I could not afford the education he is getting. He is in a Bio Chemistry program where is he doing cancer research volunteer work on a grant and learning things only afforded him by this University he can now afford because of ROTC. He is very grateful for the opportunity and is eager to lead as an Army officer. The Army will be getting the benefits of the education they funded.

this is fantastic, love reading stories like this!

If waiting 2 weeks for an answer is driving anyone crazy, you should rethink your interest in the military.
I agree, hurry up and wait will be something that will become a lifestyle for anyone who successfully makes it through these programs as we did. In this age of instant answers due to our technology, I understand that any additional wait added to the stress of selecting that college that is number one isn't easy.

With it only being a week out from the expectation, but firmly within the 2-4 weeks advertised I would implore all parents and prospective cadets alike to give it a little time. If we know and think this could impact recruitment, you know Cadet Command has come to the same conclusions. We'll know the results soon enough, they are definitely working on it.

Another day of waiting!

TBH, this delay has probably cemented my son's intention to accept his NROTC scholarship and just proceed forward with them. 🤷🏼‍♀️
NROTC was the right choice for me, I'd say as long as your DS knows that is the right choice for him go for it.

One thing I would caution him on though, the Navy is just as good at the hurry up and wait as the Army is. Definitely not an Army specific occurrence, this just happened to hit the portal we are using for this at the wrong time. I've had portals go on me for many things Navy side. Might be worth the wait?

There, thats the nice thing I've said about the Army for the year ;-)

It’s back up, but have decisions been entered? Showing same status as prior to crash
