I-Day & BCT Questions Answered

Depending on what the waiver is for, yes, they do a quick medical once over. You will most likely be required to report to I-day with the Aggressors (even if you are in a different squadron). Its also the time to hand over any additional medical records you were told to bring with you.

For instance, if your waiver is from a torn ACL, they will have you do a few squats to see if you are able to do that without pain.
So if you get a waiver and show up, there is a chance they could be like “you should not have gotten a waiver” and now you can’t go to any civilian school and basically have to take a gap year?

No no... highly unlikely. They just want to ensure you can safely complete Basic Cadet Training (BCT).

It did rain all day on my I-day many moons ago. It rains almost everyday during the summer so getting wet is likely. We had ds pack everything in easy to move and organize ziploc baggies and packing cubes inside his backpack.
Agree w/ 99Gold, CO is dry but we do have a lot of afternoon thunderstorms in the summer. Be prepared for some rain.

I'd recommend putting at least a deposit for one civilian school in the fall in case something happens to you between now and the end of BCT, that prevents you from continuing at USAFA. Something as simple as catching Mono might bounce you until next year.

I feel like this is a dumb question but even after reading over the handbook I'm still not sure. I read that your under garments are so gross after BCT many people throw it all away. So, do you bring items to use for the time period between BCT and parents weekend (the first potential time to have things brought to you)? In other words are any items stored for you during BCT that you may want/need when classes start? Thank you again!

All civilian clothing is taken along with your iday bag so you definitely could bring extra clothing and just leave the extra under garments in the bag. I said this meaning only undergarments pls don't bring other civilian gear not on the list

You get an issued computer and your phone back after BCT. Many cadets go online and order the things they need*.
Some of the parents show up for A-day with needed items.

As FlyFalcon said, all your civies are stored once you are issued uniforms. You can certainly bring a few extra pairs.

Having said all that, your underwear is clean when it comes back. It may be a dingy gray due to colors bleeding from other items, but they are clean. So there's no need to throw them away. I know many who keep them because they don't care that the white underwear are now gray.

*Parents - do NOT send packages during the first 2 or 3 weeks of school. The cadets are ordering books & school supplies. The mailroom quickly becomes overrun (cadets are notoriously bad about picking up packages from the parcel boxes). PLEASE wait until the cadets have their supplies OR use the AOG Family Plan Zoomie Delivery Service.

My son's underwear were fine after BCT. He did not need to throw anything away. There is also the C-Store which will have most things you might need after BCT for the beginning of the school year. My ds packed a backpack of school supplies (his iPad, engineering calculator, pens, pencils, etc.) before leaving which we delivered to him during Parent's Weekend. He was fine using mostly issued items for the first couple.weeks of class.

What is the last day you can back out of attending a SA before I DAY?
Well on I-Day, not joking we had 200ish kids just not show up so my class started at 1082ish. It would be polite to let them know you decline so your cadre can update their list but soen people don't get off the bus usafa gets it

some people actually don't get off the bus? I thought that was more of a thing that the cadre just said.

…and there are 200ish kids who had to go with Plan B because of this…

Im well aware it pissed some of the nwpers off. We have some amazing people who I wish had replaced those 200. But that's something in the past
200 is a very large number. I'm not sure it was that many, but I agree. If you decide to decline, then officially decline it so someone else can get the appointment.

Having said that, service academies do take into consideration the number that don't show up and appoint more than "the max."
