East coast PROTRAMID

Hello, current youngster here. I got 1st block PROTRAMID and I would argue that we did so much more than Blocks 2 or 3. @Kierkegaard makes a good point, people love a paid trip to California (I mean, who wouldn't?). Anyways, I would argue that Block 1 did 2-3 time the amount of stuff that Blocks 2 and 3 did. We also saved a lot more money, many of my friends who were 2 or 3 block spent almost twice as much as I did, and I know some of my classmates are in some crazy credit card debt because of it. Just be careful with how much you spend, enjoy the time getting to meet new people, and especially learning about all the communities.

1st Block will allow you to travel more. You will be in the VA Beach area for SWO and Aviation Weeks, NC for USMC, and Kings Bay, GA for Subs. Blocks 2 and 3 are only desired because of San Diego. There is a lot to do in San Diego, but you will run out of novel ideas and use up the free/discounted benefits in a week or two. I would also take @ParachutePanda's advise on being judicious with your spending. San Diego is pretty expensive by CA standards since it is such a tourist destination.

Take a hard look at every community and don't be afraid to ask the hard questions. Also, don't let PROTRAMID be your deciding factor. Some communities put on a dog and pony show and have their community superstars show you around and some communities will just try and show you that the community isn't as bad as it is made out to be.

^^^ Spot-on advice. ^^^

Take advantage of the fact that at USNA, you're surrounded by officers and enlisted from every warfare community. Pick their brains to ensure you get a well-rounded view. Whether you get a dog-and-pony show at PROTRAMID or are left wholly unimpressed, the personnel on the Yard can provide a reality check -- for better or for worse.

Also, 3rd block is shorter in length. Plus across county travel (which usually seems to have some glitches). They always end up loosing out on some exposure time.

Mine had 3rd block Protramid. Arrived day late due to travel issues. Liked San Diego, but as others said, expensive. Did not get to ride on a submarine like his roommate who did block 1. Camp Pendleton was disappointing as they mostly sat around. Very little to do and hard to get off base. Only way to get off is to take shuttle to main gate ($10 each way) and then Uber to where you want to go. Had a week less than block 1 and 2 Protramid.
