Summer 2024 Calendar Question

I have read on a post somewhere that coaches may have a gathering at some point but do not recall if it was day before indoc, parents weekend or during year. I could kick myself for not bookmarking it. Any previous parents have insight?
 
I’ve seen posts from the swim team that they met the day before Indoc starts, but that may be difficult this year because the day before is a Federal Holiday…. I hope there is at least a virtual meet-up. I’m sure the kids like knowing someone going in….
 
Thank you for the replies! DS is not being recruited for sports, so we won't have any team things to contend with. Was more thinking if there is any kind of ceremony at the end of indoc before fall classes begin. I see "Academic Convocation" on the calendar for July 24th but not sure who that is for or if that is something parents attend.

No the convocation is not for external guests. Plan on not seeing your mid until parents weekend and be prepared for some big changes!

We have a soccer Plebe in her first year. We arrived three days before indoc to let her get familiar with the time zone change and get settled in the area. The day before Indoc there was a gathering at the academy for all Plebes where she met some teammates and others getting ready to report! The morning of Indoc the girls met togther once onsite with Coach before entering for processing. It was an experience to be sure and we did not get the opportunity to see our Plebe before parents weekend.

Thank you this is so helpful! I did not realize there was something the day before indoc. We live about an hour away from KP, so we would not have planned an overnight stay the night before, but now maybe we will!
 
Sorry - one more question - do the plebes leave to sleep off site at any point during parents' weekend? (In other words, would my DS appreciate us getting him a hotel room for one or more nights or would that be pointless since it is not allowed or otherwise frowned upon?) Thank you!

Yes, get a room! They get their first liberty from Saturday (after ceremony is over) until Monday afternoon to leave campus. They appreciate a bed with actual blankets they can sleep under and at least an hour long shower! Try not to plan too many outings as most plebes enjoy the down time.
 
Question about Parents weekend. What occurs on Friday and what occurs on Saturday. I have never had to choose between kids and events and feel that of all weekends this one will force my hand.
 
Awesome! This is SO helpful! So if we only live an hour away, I’m wondering if we just take DS home Saturday after liberty commences until he has to be back Sunday? Is Saturday 11:00 the end of the “parent weekend” festivities? Thanks so much for the info!!
 
Yes. The festivities will end on Saturday. Make sure you are there Friday early for morning colors and to go to classes with your plebe.

You can volunteer at the Pete Rackett 5k . It usually occurs beginning of August or end of July. Our parent association passed along an email if you wanted to help. It was clear that it was not a visit. But, we visited!! And we walked/ran a 5k after helping pin the numbers on the plebes/mids. We spent the next day in NYC. Fun weekend.

That 5K run was awesome. It was definitely a non-visit visit. We also attended a Sunday Mass after Indoc and before parent's weekend. I don't think that's encouraged, but we were by no means the only parents there. It was literally Mass and back to the Company. That was the summer of 22/Class of 26.
 
You may want to think before you visit your plebe before parents weekend. In many cases it builds resentment against your plebe from company mates who are not so fortunate to have a visit. The point of not visiting is to build camaraderie among the plebe class.

I agree with this 💯. I can’t imagine any example where showing up before parents weekend is a good idea.
