My DS2 got an invite to CVW in early February. (yay)! Unfortunately, the e-mail got buried in his SPAM folder and now all the slots are filled. We got on the waitlist for April 25. I'm so disappointed for him. His brother is a 2020 grad, so he understands the daily rigor of the Academy, but CVW is such a great experience. My question is: Did he miss out on a chance to improve his candidate score ( assuming he had a successful CVW, of course)? and does anyone ever come off the waitlist?

Tell your son to put that email address in his contacts so that any future correspondence doesn’t get buried with his spam. I put several USNA addresses in my contacts.

CVW in the Fall is WAY better. Try to explain the situation to admissions and see if he can secure an invite then.

DS visits (to all his schools) got canned by COVID....played no bearing on his Appointments or acceptances to Civvie schools. He is safely tucked into Mother B with the class of '25.

Echoing that CVW does NOT boost your chances nor does not attending (for any reason) harm your chances. Lots of people can't attend. Some can't afford to financially. Some can't break away from sports or other commitments.

Also, CVW isn't "successful" other than if it helps a candidate decide whether USNA is right for him/her. Candidates are not graded or evaluated.

I recommend CVW b/c it allows a candidate to see USNA with the brigade there (as opposed to NASS). But there are many, many grads (including my USNA roommate) who never set foot on the Yard until I-Day -- and did just fine!

DS went to CVW was NAPS waitlisted, got his NAPS appointment and now at USNA. DD was never invited to CVW received LOA and appointment to USNA. Their friend was never invited to CVW got an appointment, CVW does not increase chances for an appointment.

Agree. DD went to Summer Seminar, but not CVW. Received an appointment and currently is finishing her plebe year. GO NAVY!
