Hi all,

Random question, but I’m wondering if there are any opportunities to stretch after PEP/at any point during the day during plebe summer? I find that my muscles tighten up significantly when I don’t stretch while exercising intensely, which in turn makes exercises the next day more difficult. Not a big deal by any means but just curious.

Thank you!

A new thing they started this past summer was "active recovery time." It'll be almost every night right before bed, and you'll have around 15 minutes that everyone is required to stretch in the hallway. We were actually issued foam rollers too, and you'll use them sometimes during PEP. You'll stretch at PEP everyday too, usually after the run.

The other part is even after PEP everyday you still have miles on activity and on your feet all day everyday. Chopping, drill, marching. Then throw in swimming or some type of other activity. Although it’s not maybe a 5 miles run, but the activity never stops until you go to bed. March 1/4 mile to class. March back. Chop some flights of stairs. Chop back down. March to drill. Drill for 2 hours. Intensity isn’t as high, but it’s mileage.

Thank you! How many hours per day would you say are active in some way? What would be the best way to condition for that level of exertion?

A lot of them. Most of them. The key part is to go to PS in shape. That means your body is accustomed to mileage. Ensure your shoes fit. If you are prone to shin splints work with your school cross country coach for exercises you can be doing now. Stretch and take care of your body.

You will be scheduled with something virtually all of your waking hours...the level of activity varies, from PEP to class room sessions. Even the rare unscheduled time is filled with some activity or task. IMO , the mental exhaustion was far harder than the physical exertion. I tell my Candidates there are two elements of Plebe summer, the physical and mental, and if you arrive in great physical condition, then it makes the mental game easier as well.
