USMA Letter of Assurance experience

The trigger for these LOAs is probably high test scores.

Ok this will throw a curve ball into the mix.
My son didn't get an LOA. he got a LOE (Letter of Encouragement). Basically it was a "hey we like you kid, your pretty good, but we are not giving you an LOA, but hang in there" kind of letter. In the end he was offered an appointment but chose USNA because he wanted to study Aero Engineering. The LOE was kinda good because at least we knew he had a really good chance but kinda bad because the waiting continued. All of us who waited it out know that only a very few LOAs go out, especially to non athletes. But,I know yall are checking that mailbox and email all the time. By the way when my DS got his offer of appointment from West Point. It came as a classic BFE (big fat envelope) in the mail. No email no text. Navy sent and email and a BFE and Air Force sent a email only. They all 3 came within about a week at the end of Jan. Right after this a lot of appointments started showing up on the forum. They rolled out pretty fast until March then slowed but were still happening until May. Ok that's probably TMI but I got on a roll.
