Advice please: DS notified the Captain where he received his NROTC Scholarship that he accepted his USNA appointment and would not be attending about a month ago. All went well, he was wished good luck.

He is now a plebe. We got back this weekend and I was using the desktop, his email was left open. He has received an email, requesting he send in ASAP some forms that are “late” for the NROTC program.

Opinions on how to handle?

• it’s not my email
• he is out of communication as a plebe
• Captain is aware he isn’t coming
• mommy shouldn’t handle his business
• but don’t want to leave them hanging or burn any bridges

What kind of bridges would be burned? He's in Annapolis. Also, it's not your email.

If younger DS applies in a few years. When my plebe was interviewed, the Captain remembered our first (plebes older brother) son. Asked how he was doing.

Let it go. If the Captain is aware then your DS has done his job.

You should discontinue reading his email.

To be clear I didn’t ‘read his email’. It’s the title of the email, that is visible. I completely agree. It’s why I am inquiring. Bc I know it’s important.

Well, you know who it came from without reading the email, right? Why not, as a courtesy, send an email to that person briefly explaining your son's appointment, his notifying the Captain, and that he will not be attending. Either word didn't get down the line, or someone dropped the ball, so that would correct it, and you would not be reading your son's email. Win-win-win.

@kinnem, embarrassed I didn’t think of that but yes...win win. Thanks.

Not to mention that it might open up a spot for a qualified NROTC candidate that would still jump at the chance to accept a position, if it were offered, even at this date and time.

Not trying to bring up the discussion of informing Plan B re: attending SA, but our children allowed me to monitor their emails during PS in case of injuries and had to fall back onto Plan b. Just how we handle it in Zeus house.

All above are great words of advice I didn't think of. Thankfully the mom didn't listen to me.
