I’m currently a junior at USAFA and I was looking into the rated AFSCs which I had not been considering. Does an economics major disqualify me from putting in for the CSO AFSC? If not, does anyone have any CSO experience they’d be willing to share?

I appreciate you posting on this forum to try and find answers to such a question, but I have a question for you. You’re a C2C at the academy. Your answer can be found there in probably less than 30 seconds. And with a lot more accuracy. Have you asked in your squadron, your commander, C1C who have already put in for their jobs. (Or when you say you’re a junior, C2C, you mean you’re going to be a C1C in about 4 weeks?).

Not to be course, but you have at least 2 years at the zoo. Maybe 3. I can’t think of questions you would have ABOUT the academy that would be better answered here.

I’m a rising junior (C2C) that’s currently away from the academy for this period of summer who just got really interested in the rated jobs recently. We also don’t get much exposure to the CSO career field because if we are talking about rated I‎t is mainly just Pilot. I got to speak directly to an ABM and lost interest in I‎t but can’t seem to get much information on the CSO job and just wanted to see if there was anyone on here that had some first hand experience or knowledge. I got some information regarding physical sciences as a CSO requirement but a lot of uncertainty so I figured I’d post on here.

Believe it or not, there are many officer AFSCs that have little operational or "real work" info even at the Academy or via Google. I don't know about CSO, but Aerospace Physiology is a good example.
So, I wouldn't be too quick to expect the cadet can find all the info of interest locally. Asking for someone with real life experience is not too much to ask on the forum.

I can only answer as a parent of son who did AFRotc. There would be no issue having a degree in economics if you wanted to go CSO. If being an academy graduate prevent this from happening, i have no idea. It wouldnt prevent someone with an econ degree from a civilian college from going that route

Yeah you can get any rated job out of USAFA with any major. Let me know if you have more specific questions and I can ask some friends I know in CSO training or some former CSOs down here at UPT.

My son (USAFA 2013) is currently a WSO (Weapon Systems Officer) in an F-15 E. Training after USFA included a year of CSO (Combat Systems Officer) training @ NAS in Pensacola, FL, then SERE (Survival Training) in Washington, G Training in San Antonio, IFF (Into. to Fighter Fundamentals) and then on to additional training as a F-15 E WSO (or whatever airframe you receive after the completion of CSO training). No specific major required (he was a Civil Engineering major). Lots of videos available on CSO training on You Tube.
