I have a second question, my uncle is a Air Force Officer, can he nominate me as a service nomination? Even though I’m trying to go into West Point. Even though I’m trying to go to West Point.

No, your uncle cannot nominate you to any academy. Only official nomination sources can do that. If you are a civilian, these sources would be your local and state Congressmen and the Vice President. If your parents (mom/dad) have served, you may also be eligible for one from the President. You have to apply for these nominations and can get started by calling or reading up on these people's websites. Your uncle won't be able to nominate you unless he happens to be your Congressman, Mike Pence, or Donald Trump.
 
Probably good to start with the official USMA website and the websites of various MOC in your area. Sounds like your uncle isn't familiar with the SA application process.

Actually, not if your uncle is Donald Trump either because presidential nominations are for CHILDREN of Career Military including children of Career Military Reservists. With regard to parents having served, merely being a veteran is not enough, they have to either be currently serving or retired from the military with 20 or more years of service.
 
Although you only need one nomination to get an appointment to a service Academy, the more nominations you have the more opportunities you have to win a slot for appointment. Thus, you should try to get as many nominations as possible. They are like lottery tickets; more tickets, better you chance.

Totally agree! Get as many nomination as you can. Don't make the same mistake as my DS did by only applying to one for the USMA. He was 3 q'd but missed out on West Point because someone on that same Senators slate had a higher score and was picked. If he had applied to several he would have made it! He still received a 4 year AROTC scholarship and is loving life in both AROTC and college.

Yep. Even very top notch candidates miss appointments because they happen to be in same district as someone else who can win the spot by narrowest of margins. Lessen that chance by, first, being as competitive as you can, and second, getting in as many MOC pools as possible.

I would offer another suggestion, which many disagree with. Applying to all of the academies. My son originally wanted West Point, but after looking into the academies, what each had to offer (which frankly is similar, and all tremendous, for each school), as well as considering that his goal was to lead men and women, and serve america, he applied to USMA, USNA, and USAFA. I suggested he also apply to Coast Guard Academy, but he chose not to. He got an appointment to USAFA first, and was incredibly fired up, and was fully satisfied, to say the least. Then got his appointment to USMA, then in the end USNA. He picked West Point. He loves the Corps and West Point, but when asked if he would do things differently in hindsight, he says he would have applied and considered Coast Guard. He sees CG as a great career, and while he isnt sure if he would change, that is the one that he wonders about.

Most young men and women don't have the insight or life experience to be able to accurately plan out their careers while they are in high school. Frankly, many adults don't either. Lol. Open as many doors as possible, and let your insight, instincts, and perhaps devine intervention steer you into the best choices given the circumstances at the time.

Thank you all, I’ll most likely apply for all the academies with the exception of the Merchant Marine academy because I would not be comfortable with what they do.

Actually, grads at MMA have the option of either serving in any of the armed services or the merchant marines. It's the most flexible of all.

As well as other choices that serve the required obligation such as NOAA.
