So, my son is considering either a Service Academy or ROTC option. He has a solid SAT 1510 (no accommodations), good GPA 3.75 (unweighted), three sport varsity athlete (including State qualifier for wrestling). He is in his Junior year. All that being said, he has a 504 for extra time on exams because of his processing speed. According to the school psychologist, his processing speed is normal, his "brain speed" is exceptionally high. It is like a super computer being hooked to a dot matrix printer for output (my analogy). He wants to exit his 504 now, I am not so sure. He is taking 5 AP classes this year and usually uses extra time in Calc AB. So has anyone out there walked this road regarding processing speed? I appreciate any and comments.

Off topic, but on topic. Quick question, and no offense intended, but what do you think will happen once he is either at an SA or traditional college in ROTC regarding the extra time allotment?

I get where you are coming from as a parent, but I would side with your child on this topic and try to get off the 504. He is going to need to learn how to survive in college without an IEP. Doing this at home in HS impo is better than being away at college and trying to learn how to survive academically without an IEP for the 1st time in his life.

I've personally never seen extra time allowed on military exams while in training, and I've been through a ton. You either finish it in the time allotted or you don't. AFOQT especially comes to mind.

Maybe the other branches are different...
