Say I wanted to go to SLE session 1 and have already accepted the Naval Academy SS session 2 offer(June 8 - 13), how could I get to the Naval Academy in that short of time? Is it even possible, or should I decline the SLE offer?

To answer your question: Probably an Apache, taking off from the Plain. (If going the other way, probably an Osprey, taking off from Hospital Point.)

But seriously, many do multiple summer sessions, so it’s possible. If flights or car travel are problematic, you can ask to switch sessions. That’s what my DD did to accommodate USMA, USNA and USAFA in consecutive weeks. Tiring, but fun and informative.

When my son went to SLE, I met several parents who were picking their kids up at WP and then driving directly to NA for that summer session.

You should do both--you won't know where you want to go to school and what you want to do as a grown up until you do both.
You could arrange a ride with someone else on this forum whose parents may be picked them up and taking them to Annapolis that same day. There is a set of rising seniors/future applicants who will make a circuit of attending summer seminars. The place to meet them is SAF. (You would definitely want your parents to talk to their parents prior to finalizing any arrangements--the whole 'stranger danger/internet danger' thing is always possible. (And really, I do not know you--but like so many parents on this page--we would want you to be safe).

Another thing you could do is fly. Shuttle bus to the airport (EWR/Newark) from USMA, flight to BWI, shuttle bus to USNA.

Seriously, why would you ever want to be a squid? We beat them at everything. They will not even box our boxing team. Now that the playing field has been leveled in football we are going to stomp them for years.

Just saying if you are the best go with the best.

Do you beat them on SATs? ;)

Lots of kids do it. My DD had a bunch friends from her platoon go to NASS right after their SLE session. I think most of them flew out of LaGuardia to BWI. Some had parents pick them up at West Point and drive them to Annapolis.

I guess that you haven't looked at the Star Competition statistics. Go ahead and let us know how many years Army wins the majority of stars or for that matter, what the ten year overall record looks like.
One site to look at is armynavygame.com. Hint: Navy wins the overall series just about every year.

What does everyone do about....laundry? If doing back-to-back? I suppose you have to just pack double/everything for both sessions?

Depends how you are traveling and timeframe. I would bring extra clothes and switch my son’s stuff out when he was attending all sorts of camps, Boys State, SLE etc a few years ago. If you are flying in between, finding a laundry would be necessary unless you bring it all with you. I can say you don’t want to overpack and be the person struggling with their bags. [emoji51]

Why wouldn't the candidate be carrying their own stuff? I'll never understand the many times I've seen 100Lb moms carrying bags/musical instruments/gear while their 6'2/200 LB son's carry just their phone and maybe a water bottle. I must be a dinasaur.

Perhaps because they would be carrying dress clothes for Boys State along with their clothes for SLE and recruiting football camps ending in an engineering camp. His clothes would have been a hot, smelly mess. Not sure why this is an issue.

Edited to add: Switching out clothes worked for my son as we provided transportation in between events after SLE. He also found out the hard way that a suitcase with wheels was not a good thing at SLE hence the not overpacking. No rollie bags at USMA even for SLE could be utilized a few years back much less using a rollie cart for I Day in comparison. Luckily his 6’ 3.5 self was strong enough to CARRY his rather large suitcase at a brisk pace. Some kids weren’t as lucky.

I guess a cute, pull-behind, hand cart would work to carry a bunch of heavy stuff...;)

Which the mom would then pull?

Where is dad and why isn’t he helping?

This is one of these damned if you do, damned if you don’t scenarios.

When I was a young man 30 years ago I entered a Kmart with my wife. It was raining hard so I held the door a little extra long for a woman.

When she got there she said “I am perfectly capable of getting my own door.”

I responded “don’t flatter yourself, I hold the door for everyone.”

To each their own. :)

This whole thread was trying to help some kids with transport and laundry issues. Not sure how it turned into Army vs Navy. I shared what worked for my family and shockingly, my son is doing well without me! If you have an issue with what worked for my family, so be it. I had no problem switching clothes out when my son needed clean ones going from summer activity to summer activity. It worked for us. If it doesn’t work for other people, ok. We can all coexist together in shared space together.

Edited to take out a comment that was funny but not grown up according to my retired Navy enlisted husband who is once again right. [emoji51]

DS did SLE session 1 and NASS session 2 last summer. My wife and I picked him up at West Point and drove to Annapolis - think it was about 5 hours. We stayed at the Governor Calvert House and there was a laundry mat just around the corner. They get a lot of stuff so we took the WP stuff home and washed the things he brought. It was actually pretty easy and it was fun to hear all about SLE on the drive down (when he was awake).

Another option.
Take the ferry to Garrison Station (if it’s a Friday-Sunday).
Train to Grand Central.
Walk to Penn Station.
Train to Baltimore.
Cab/Uber to USNA.

Choose BWI Airport Amtrak Station, closer to Annapolis, over the downtown Baltimore station.
It’s the Northeast Regional. Accela is the high-speed train, same route, fewer stops, more $.

Can anyone use the ferry? We’ve been eyeballing a BnB in Garrison. Thanks!
