Waiters ....this thread is for you

Thread name: "Waiters ....this thread is for you". Your son is USNA appointed. Thanks for rubbing it in for everyone CPR.

So you choose to quote a post that is a month old in order to be a whiner? You’ve got 4 posts and two of them are immature and offensive. I’m not sure that you belong here. Please check the attitude before posting anymore on the forums.

The thread's title clearly states "Waiters ....this thread is for you". You have a parent who is rubbing in the fact their child has been admitted into USNA and an ivy in a conversation clearly intended for people who are waiting to hear back from the Academy. If anything, that's far more "offensive" and "immature". An analogy would be going into job fair with unemployed people searching for a job, and you entering in bragging you've just received a position at a bank with a high paying salary. Not the right audience. Not sure you belong here and your attitude is terrible for being a "Super Moderator".

DS has to choose between USNA appointment or Princeton AROTC.
I honestly don't know how you turn either one down.

C'mon. You are very pessimistic. This isn't a "you vs me" sort of process. If you are looking at it that way you have the wrong attitude. We are all in this together and all on the same team. You will hardly ever find someone trashing another candidate on here, but you wont have to look very hard for someone trying to build someone up or give good advice. All the person who made this thread was trying to do was lift up and help out those who are still CPR. Whatever his status is is irrelevant. I've been CPR for like 5 months. It sucks. But be appreciative that you even had a chance to apply and congratulate those that got in. It wasn't given to them, they worked just as hard if not harder than you.

Nobody is rubbing anything in.

DS was DQed by 2 academies and waitlisted to another. He also lost an ROTC scholarship within a day of winning it.

He knows what it is like fail.

How is bragging you've been admitted into USNA in a thread intended for people who are waiting to hear back from USNA not bragging? If you can't understand this thread isn't quite the right audience, I don't know what to tell you...

We need to pass the time somehow. Let’s be positive! Anybody want to say what colleges that have been accepted to so we can see how many awesome kids there are here ?!?! I’m regularly impressed by the caliber of people in this forum. It’s not easy to even be in this situation. Everyone is exceptional. What’s your plan b or c?

@qwerty123 First post, starting the thread. Tell me again how people who have been offered an appointment aren't allowed to participate?

By no means am I trashing another candidate, I just find it completely inappropriate and really quite insensitive that someone would sit talking about how their DS/DD was admitted into USNA in a thread INTENDED for those waiting who are CPR. That's bragging even if unintentional and rude.

No one made some prescriptive rule per say, it's a question of the fact that the title CLEARLY states that this conversation is intended for those who are CPR, and you have a parent bragging that their DS/DD has been admitted. Wrong audience.

I think that when the OP posted this they were still in fact in CPR status and they subsequently received an Appointment, which would make this all just one big misunderstanding.

Why do you seem to be the only person taking offense to their statement. Learn to be happy for someone else’s accomplishment.

Well there's that, then there's also the fact you are on a forum with a lot of parents that like to show off their kids. There's nothing wrong with that. Are people not allowed to have proud parent moments on here? Not to mention it was definitely in the flow of the conversation. Parents and candidates were discussing the options they have and which ones they should take.

I'm guessing that the parent in question wasn't trying to offend those who were turned down/CPR, one way or another.

-Person that is still CPR (for the second time)

We are all in the waiting game together, we should congratulate those who got in. Maybe there is another who is deciding between two similiar options and is struggling to choose, they want to make the best choice for themselves. I take no offense to someone getting an appointment, we all worked hard to get where we are. The intention was not negative, it was simply to make a statement about a difficult choice that will alter ones future with two similiar yet very different experiences. USNA is filled with a teamwork environment, we should encourage and congratulate the success of peers even if we got the short end of the stick. Not to be harsh, but you should have more maturity than that especially when considering attending a place like USNA.

Everyone deep breathe. Everyone understands the waiting is hard. And every year us old timers keep saying that April 15th is the day to prepare for. So those opening apps today... prepare to wait until April 15th. If this thread is raising sensitivities... then a military career is going to be a challenge. The entire system is waiting! Every 12-24 months you will be waiting. Each wait becomes bigger and more important as you progress. They also get more complicated because the implications are great and if you have a family their lives are also impacted. And I know that an 18 years old life this is their biggest wait, but dealing with waiting, seeing others with successful results while you wait, getting bad news and being in a continual cycle of wait and see is your future if you want to be a military officer. Some will even have a longer wait into June with a Wait List. There isn’t a rule against someone posting or who can post where. Keep it professional, focus on your future and plans and best of luck.

DS got his email today and he has been waitlisted. He has a full ride offer to Colgate so I am unsure what he will do now. From the little I have read, being waitlisted means you have very little chance of being selected. Of course, I realize you have more than you would if you had received TWE but the odds are not very good, right?
He visits Colgate next Monday and Tuesday but he had really hoped to be joining USNA.

Sorry to hear it wasn’t an Appt., but at least it wasn’t a TWE.

That said, this is very pertinent new information for the rest of the waiters.

This is the first reporting on the forums regarding USNA using the waitlist. The potential implication being that they are done appointing off the slates and NWL, and they have now classified all remaining candidates as:

Appointed, TWE, or Waitlist

Presumably then, they are ready to tell all remaining candidates their status this week.

You cannot presume anything, based on one report of a single candidate placed on the wait list.
USNA will let everyone know if they are out (not getting an Offer of Appointment) by April 15th.
Until then, no one knows with any certainty where they are. Offers of Appointment can still be tendered after April 15th as well, and not necessarily from the wait list.

It is true that the odds aren't very good that you will come off the wait list and receive a Fully-Qualified Offer of Appointment, but they are odds, nonetheless.
Some years - precious few come off that list - but it happens.

It ain't over till it's over.

TH,

I’ll try to clarify my point, as I wasn’t very eloquent.

I think what I am saying is that in order to know who is going on the wait list, USNA admissions would have to have also finalized who is going to be Appointed in this final round off action before 4/15 and who is going to get a TWE. That dovetails perfectly with everybody knowing their exact admissions status by 4/15.

I’m not suggesting that it’s over and that more people won’t be notified of Appointments by the 15th, or even after ,as some very small number of Waivers might be worked out or people will come off the waitlist.

All a very roundabout way of saying that the information coming out today appears to be perfectly logical and exactly in accordance with USNAs communicated timeline. Good old USN precision - on time, on target!

Thus I think will we see a few more Appointments and Wait List notifications reported by next Monday and a significantly higher number of TWEs reported by next Monday, and then that will 99.9% close the books on another admissions season.

Good luck to everyone on the forum!
