I know it's during freshman year but which month? When we report to our units in August? Or a little later like September or October?

depends on passing the pt test and general administrative stuff

Makes sense. I have a pt test on Aug 23 and the administrative stuff is on 22. Plus I do get my uniform after the PT test so should I assume around Aug 23 or 24?

It can vary by Battalion depending on whether they have you report early to take the APFT a couple days before school starts, also depends on whether you have completed all the required paperwork. If possible get in touch with the HR person at the battalion and have them send you as much paperwork as they can so you can get it completed before you get to school. The form that will take you the most time will be the 104R, if you can get the newest version of this form from the Battalion and get started on it now it will help speed things along. You will need to find out who your college advisor is and get their help in filling out the form.

Like I said it all depends on the Battlion, at my son's school they sent everything early and he was able to complete all the paperwork including the 104R before school started, I think he may have had to sign just a couple things when he arrived. He took his APFT the Thursday before school started and the had a contracting ceremony for those that past and had all their paperwork done that afternoon and he signed his contract. He was contracted before school actually started so he started getting his stipend right away.

If your Battalion does not work like this just make sure you stay on top of it and get everything done as quickly as possible, you do not start receiving your stipend until you contract and they do not pay retroactive. Your tuition won't be scheduled for payment or receive your book money until you have signed your contract so don't wait for them to get it done, be proactive.

And of course make sure you're ready to pass your APFT.
