What are some good things to write about on the third (optional) writing sample.

What makes you stand out, leadership qualities, uniqueness. Any specific topic areas suggested?

Was there a prompt? I would think so. I have no clue what “the third (optional) writing sample” means. Can you be more specific? But generally the advice is to answer what’s prompted.

this is the 3rd prompt:
Please provide any additional information or background you believe will be of assistance in evaluating your application. (400 to 500 words, 3000 characters max)

ahhhh....so anything that is about YOU that the other areas don’t cover. This is your chance to do that. Everyone will be different!

This is usually where you would include factors that impact your application that aren't anywhere else. For example - my tennis involvement/stats took what looked like an odd drop in my junior year because I had a severe injury at the end of my sophomore year. I used this prompt to explain that injury and how I overcame it with intensive physical therapy to get back into top form to play at the Academy.

Another example is a grade slip because of a family situation/injury/illness, but really, it is anything that you think will strengthen your application that didn't fit elsewhere in the application.

Was advised that in the application process...USAFA or nominations NOTHING is optional! You want to follow directions exactly but crush anything that is indicated as optional...it’s another method to separate the serious from the minimalist! Nothing is minimalist in THIS process!!
