DS's ACT scores finally got approved today in the AROTC portal and he got a message that his ACT scores are below the minimum 19. They are well above that. Anyone else receive this? I have a feeling it is related to the trouble they've had with the system. He is wondering if he should email the contact or wait it out. Since the board doesn't meet for awhile and the app is still open, I'm advising him to wait. Anyone have a different take?

My gut feel is always to take action and document steps taken with screenshots. Even if this self-resolves in a few days, as of right now, “the system” believes your DS is not competitive in the ACT arena. You don’t know what happens behind the scenes, in terms of applications being electronically moved to a pile that’s non-competitive.

If there is a AROTC help desk he can email and “start a ticket,” (document!) to establish the error being made in his application, or a contact to call (log!) that would also serve to notify them of a glitch if it is indeed a new system problem.

I claim no knowledge of the AROTC scholarship system or process, just rely on my gut and years of experience with govt systems inadvertently creating errors and then taking a loooong and persistent time to correct.

Personally, I would reach out to admissions just to play it safe. There really isn't any harm in doing that, since he probably isn't the only one with that problem, and if he is, they'll hopefully fix it quicker.

Thank you. That is a good point. After I posted, I was also thinking that this could affect his interview as well.

It appears to be a system issue. We received same inaccurate message.

Good news is that it did trigger the counselor and physical test email.:):)

It’s also good experience for your DS in terms of professional communications and self-advocacy. I added in the link for Contacts to my post above, in case that adds to what he already sees.

I definitely agree with this. He has gotten a lot of practice with professional communication at his workplace but now he's putting it into practice.

My DS just told me he received the same message and his ACT scores were well above the minimum, so I’m guessing it is a glitch, but he plans to reach out to the AROTC POC.

DS checked his ROTC portal after sending an email and it now says, “Did you receive an email informing you your ACT/SAT scores were not qualifying; however they are? This is simply an automation error that populated when we fixed the verification issue. Simply verify your score is listed correctly on the Academics tab and if the composite is at a minimum 1000 for SAT and 19 ACT then you are fine. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

whew! Just a good introduction for DS to the Army bureaucracy: “Trust, but verify!”
