I am curious on the travel abroad programs at the academy. Can a cadet travel abroad and not be taking a foreign language major or minor for that country?

There is an annual program called the Foreign Academy Exchange Program (FAEP) that sends cadets to some 30-40 countries for spring break annually. They then host cadets from said countries for a week at USMA. Most countries have no language requirement. I went to Europe when I was a Firstie and had a blast.

As previously mentioned, there are AIAD opportunities all over the world. They need not be affiliated with the foreign language department.

Yes. For example, https://www.westpoint.edu/academics...civil-and-mechanical-engineering/study-abroad . I'm sure there are programs like this for other majors as well.
This is a bit misleading/outdated--there is no specific study abroad program for engineers, but you can still go if you have a foreign language minor/enough credits. It makes it very hard in other semesters. A couple friends in my (engineering) major ended up having to take 28 credits in a semester, which is absolutely insane. Validate, validate, validate classes if this is something you want to do.

Gotta compete with civilian schools I guess.

Might as well confirm every pre-conceived notion our allies have about the US.

Absolutely. I know two yuks from my area who are engineering majors and just got selected for SAP (Study Abroad Program).

Not sure about study abroad. My son after 2C at USNA spent about a month in Germany, Austria, and Italy as an areospace engineer major. He had no language majors or minors.

And don’t forget those all-expenses-paid trips to Guam, Qatar, Afghanistan, and maybe even Ukraine after you graduate. ;)

DS just came back from Germany. He is a double major with one of them being German. He left WP early September and stayed until late December. When he wasn't in class, he spent his free time exploring the country. Not sure but a semester abroad is more likely reserved for language majors.
