We are at war but not in a wartime footing. More of these attacks are coming with a domestic one not out of the realm of probabilities.
It is scary. The number of foreigners fighting age coming across our border for years is high and should have been stopped.

Apparently our troops have been attacked 165 times since Hamas went in to Israel.

Our foreign policy has been a disaster.

The US has been punched in the face while Iran stands over us laughing and Biden crawls away crying.

Regardless of your political views, it's hard to deny that this administration's incompetence has made us a laughing stock that nobody takes seriously anymore. 24 hours after a fatal attack on US forces and we haven't responded at all besides Austin saying " we will take all necessary actions to defend the United States, our troops, and our interests". Obviously that's a lie. These terrorists know they can strike US forces with little to no retaliation (and people wonder why recruiting/retention is so bad...).

It's astounding to me that 23 years after 9/11 we don't seem to have learned any lessons. Beef up (or attempt to beef up) security in airports, etc. but leave our borders completely open. For mammals, we have extremely poor instincts.

Was at the first gulf war in 91, back again for Afghanistan and Iraq in 01 and 02. Sad that my daughter will probably go over there again when she gets commissioned. We have had too many "yes" men Flag officers telling the government that everything is going great. We pulled out of Afghanistan and the bad guys took it over in weeks. Yet those flag officers got promoted and retired without consequence.

Presumably, all of this has an affect on military recruiting, in general.

When I created this post, it was to recognize, honor, and remember those killed and wounded in the drone attack. On SAF, we often have posts of remembrance after a training accident or other service-related deaths. I did not intend to start a political discourse.

In rereading my post, I can see how that might have been missed. I am sorry for that.

There is a lot of ground to cover on the politics of it all and as the posts above show it is complex. But let's remember the grunt on the ground who isn't creating policy or strategic policy but is asked to carry it out.

"In a press release Monday, the Defense Department said Sgt. William Jerome Rivers, 46, of Carrollton, Georgia; Spc. Kennedy Ladon Sanders, 24, of Waycross, Georgia and Spc. Breonna Alexsondria Moffett, 23, of Savannah, Georgia, died Jan. 28, 2024, in Jordan." (CBS News)

RIP soldiers.

Trying to read the details, were the 3 killed AD or reserves? I saw reserves listed for one of them, but possibly just a previous stint. I did see where many of the wounded were ARNG out of AZ.

From what I've read, all three were Army Reservists from a Georgia based unit.

Current Reports state that the Drone was incomming and misidentifiied as friendly RTB. Don't these things have IFF/SIF that any controller on a scope could immediately identify as an anomaly and at least question a unidentified contact? SQUAWK IDENT might be first choice. Where they were from or what their duty status, Active or Reserve, doesn't matter. They were Ours. As an aside, I didn't swear an oath to an administration.

Agreed. I think it came up as a question because all the dead were from GA. I was curious as well, although I didn't raise the question.
