I received the following from my ALO and thought those who are waiting might be interested as it gives very specific dates. I hadn't seen anyone else post this so thought I'd share.

USAFA regular appointment boards meet 26-27 Feb and again 4-6 March. Notifications go out after that, then we'll see follow-on rounds of appointments go out as prospective students accept/decline. Bottom line to your mentees: they are in the running until they receive a "Letter of Non-Acceptance".

Applicants who did not receive a congressional nomination may still receive an appointment to the prep school or the Falcon scholar program.

Is it still possible to have the an VP nomination attached to the applicant or would that already be showing? DS has no USAFA nomination, so trying to figure out if he still has a shot or at this point he would only have a shot at prep school!?

Even if you receive a "Letter of Non-Acceptance" keep checking back. My DS received one, but 2 weeks before "I" day, it changed and he received an offer to the AF Prep School.

So is this regular appointment board for the applicants that never received an “LOI” or ”LOA”? Almost like a regular decision board for the kids they didn’t want early on? If this is the case Is it at these meetings where they choose the most competitive applicant from the outstanding congressional/senatorial slates that are left? Just trying to understand/learn more about this general appointment board. Thank you all for your help.

I'm not sure but hopefully someone can explain. It seems like some appointments were just sent out possibly so maybe the next wave would be expected after Feb. 27?

It appears USAFA Admissions has been sending out appointments every Monday of the new week since around mid December ish. From what I’ve gathered from the self updating list here on the forum the majority of applicants (Applicants sharing information on the Forum) that are already appointed are kids who received LOIs/LOAs. However some more recent appointments look to have had no LOI/LOA. It would make sense that USAFA would appoint applicants they’ve had interest in from the beginning early and push applicants back who they haven’t made up their minds on yet to a later date. That’s why I‘m wondering if this general late February board primarily appoints kids who are nominated and qualified (just didn’t catch their interest early on) but are still the most competitive on their outstanding slate.

This is all just my speculation/thoughts and shouldn’t be taken as official word regarding the admission process whatsoever.

What about principal nominations without LOA’s have we seen them being pushed through yet?

"Applicants who did not receive a congressional nomination may still receive an appointment to the prep school or the Falcon scholar program."

Or if this is YOU and your package is just STUNNING...you could end up with a Vice Presidential nomination.

Now I used to say that every year...not really believing it because I'd never seen it happen. Until 4 years ago when one of my students got it! And very shortly after that, she received an offer of an appointment (same week).

Yes, her package was THAT good!

"The rest of the story?" She's high enough in her class that she'll be an honor graduate this year!!

From West Point.
"I still really like her though!"
