It's not basic knowledge, but it should be. We're from Michigan and it isn't required on birth certificates. Donating is the easiest way to find out because physicians need a reason to order the test.

I've learned that you only find out your blood type if you're very ill or donating blood products/organ(s). I was shocked when I asked DS's pediatrician and they don't have any record of it. It seems like it would be done when they are born.
