NROTC (Marine Option) 4 Year Scholarship

Yes, get to know your OSO (Officer Selection Officer), but if you live far away from him, then get to know the local Marine recruiter NCOs. For pull-ups, buy a pull-up belt and use a 25lb weight.

    Trying to choose NROTC schools

If a student has the grades to earn an ROTC scholarship, getting in to Marquette is a breeze.

    Trying to choose NROTC schools

I attended Marquette Army ROTC, and our cadet battalion commander was from MSOE, and is a COL at West Point today. He chose to live at Marquette and go back to MSOE for senior year. As stated above, it was an easy commute. We had a fine relationship with the Navy. We shared the Old Gym, and we...

    Interesting "problem"

This decision should have already been made using some kind of decision tree, but here is my opinion. #1, don't go to a SA unless 100% dedicated to serving the USA and in that branch #2, don't go to a SA if you want the "college experience" #3, don't turn down a full-ride to a top 10 state...

Should I Follow Up With ROO About Transfer?

Since it has been two weeks, a nice email follow up is fine. I would also remind him that you are visiting campus, and request to meet with one or more of the cadre members, and get a cadet's contact info as well.

    IVY DAY

Here is the quote that would draw interest from this forum: "Twenty-one veterans were admitted to the Class of 2028, and 41 students have expressed interest in ROTC." Code for we are getting GI Bill or ROTC money from 60+ kids.

    NROTC College deadlines

I am sure there are universities that have Navy and a March 1st application deadline or later. Probably not the top schools, but there are some. For instance, Eastern Michigan University is part of U of Michigan NROTC, and the school is rolling admissions, and there is a chance to transfer to...

NROTC (Marine Option) - What needs to be improved?

Is the 3.9 weighted or unweighted? Captain of Rowing or Swimming? 1320 is on the weak side for service academies or ROTC, and is the only weakness in the stats you provided above.

ACT/SAT Score good enough for ROTC?

    Here is the table we use. Your ACT score is much more competitive. Table A2: ACT Composite to SAT Total. ACT SAT SAT Range 36 1590 1570-1600 35 1540 1530-1560 34 1500 1490-1520 33 1460 1450-1480 32 1430 1420-1440 31 1400 1390-1410 30 1370 1360-1380 29 1340 1330-1350 28...

How often do kids leave the ROTC scholarship program(s) by choice?

Army has more major flexibility than Navy or Air Force, and Marine Corps doesn't care about major at all. I would be interested to see how many Navy students switch to Marine Corps when the drop to Tier 3 major is denied.

    AFROTC Commissioning & Medical Coverage

Search out threads for medical coverage. Primary answer is no, not until they report to first duty station. Not sure if service puts officer on educational delay.

    GENERIC CROSSTOWN QUESTION

Consider the distances for crosstown affiliates carefully. For Marquette AROTC, MSOE (Milwaukee School of Engineering) is only 8-12 city blocks away and easily doable, but UWM (U of Wisconsin Milwaukee) is on the other side of the city and is at least 15 minutes by car sometimes longer. Also...

    Rotc being overweight

I am usually a strong ROTC advocate, but I think this candidate might benefit by going the Army National Guard route. Complete basic training this summer, and get a taste of military life, and if it doesn't work out, then move on to other civilian options. If it does work out, then join ROTC as...

    Biggest and Smallest NROTC units?

Excluding military colleges, I believe all these schools are over 100: Old Dominion, Penn State, Villanova, Notre Dame, Purdue, San Diego combined

The best college for NROTC programs who are aspiring to be SEAL officers.

I have seen photos on Facebook of Navy cadets training with Marine Option cadets. Not sure of the exact schools, but probably Big 10/Big 12.

    Bullying or hazing or what?

Bullying or hazing are very loaded terms in this day and age. Cadre to cadet is corrective action, while cadet to cadet might be bullying or hazing. If an NCO is particularly hard on a cadet, then the cadet can go to one of the Captains for advice or to lodge a complaint. By no means do I...

    AROTC Guard and Reserve

With all the recruiting issues the military is having right now, I wouldn't bank on getting out of the 4 years of active duty. I commissioned in 1995, and since there was a drawdown after Persian Gulf I, we had well over 90% of scholarship cadets assigned to active duty. Every situation is...

    School Choice Change Thoughts

For Navy, I think only Embry Riddle and San Diego State filled up last year. I don't think the Ivy's fill up, since most prospective cadets can't get 1500 or higher on the SAT. For Army, there are so many choices, and much more flexibility, but I don't know that scholarship placement policy. I...
