My son received a meeting request out of the blue for a 10 minute 'file review meeting'. Any idea what this is? He got no context in the meeting request email.

Who was it from, FFR? RC? Diversity Officer? Other?

In person meeting or online?

Online meeting with Admission Counselor. Just 10 min.
I am not familiar with this. Could be something new. I initially thought it might be an FFR making contact, but they would not identify themselves as admissions counselors. I have not known admissions to reach out to candidates in whom they have no interest, so I would look at it as a positive sign.

West Point admissions is traditionally divided into regional teams by geography with each team consisting of:
  • Regional Commander (usually a Captain or Major) - admissions officer responsible for that area
  • Diversity Officer (1st LT) - responsible for outreach to diversity candidates in region
  • Candidate Technician - technical support
  • Candidate Support Assistant - administrative support
  • Additionally, Field Force Representatives (FFR) - alumni volunteers in region
The list of the specific individuals is listed on the West Point website.

Yeah - it was his Regional Commander. He replied to a query and just said he wanted to go over everything with him and make sure he is on track for getting in all the requirements! thank you!

My ds just did this last week in person at an admissions briefing. It was very informative and the admissions officer helped him focus on what would have the biggest impact his file. In his case, told him he'd basically maxed the EC points and the biggest thing he could do was become team captain for his lacrosse team. He also was able to tell him how competitive he looked in our district. Overall it was encouraging and motivating for my ds.
