100% Service Related Disability Nomination

My father is a 100% disabled veteran, and due to this I have received this nomination for all academies which I am applying for. During a visit to the Air Force Academy, I spoke with an admissions counselor who implied that if I was qualified, I would almost assuredly receive an appointment due to this nomination. However, I've also seen posts on here saying that this nomination is really not that great due to the limited spots available nationwide. I've also been advised by my BGO that the congressional nomination is still my best shot.

I'm wondering if anyone here (possibly BGOs or ALOs) have any specific information about the nomination. For example, how many in a given admission cycle receive it and how beneficial it is to have this nomination. I'd also appreciate any advice concerning my application in general.

Really what I would like to know is can I take a breath knowing I have a better chance at admission? Or is this not really that helpful and likely won't come into play?

Some stats regarding my application:
3.7 GPA (unweighted)
25% class rank at a large regional HS
1450 SAT (740 Math, 710 English)
4 years of a national engineering program at HS (PLTW)
Scored in 99th percentile for PLTW exam nationwide
Science and Spanish National Honor Society Member
National Merit Commendation
Private Pilot's License (50+ hours)

President of Personal Finance Club
Founder of a social club at school
Attended Naval Academy Summer Seminar
Eagle Scout with 100+ hours of community service
6+ years of leadership experience in scouting:
Patrol Leader(4 years)
Senior Patrol Leader (1 year)
Troop Guide(1.5 years)

3 seasons of JV athletics:
XC 2021
Winter Track 2021
Spring Track 2022
3 seasons of Varsity athletics:
XC 2022
Winter Track 2022(expected)
Spring Track 2023(expected)

I have absolutely no advice as to your question.

But I’d be telling my own kids, and I would guess the SA sports coaches would be telling them the same——-apply for all nominations. Go thru the interviews. Do your best.

In the case of sports teams this is stressed a lot even though nominations can often be found for them if need be.

You will be competing against a lot of outstanding students who have resumes every bit as good and in some cases better than yours.

I’ve posted a link on types of noms/numbers available. It may not be the latest version, but the source material for the type nom you mentioned is not likely to change. Look at non-Congressional noms and the related table.

You should apply for all noms for which you are eligible: 2 Senators, 1 Representative, VP and any others. If the SA finds you fully qualified and wishes to offer you an appointment, this gives them maximum flexibility as to which nom source they charge your appointment to.

 
First, having the nomination is great because that is a mandatory requirement to move into the next round of the hunger games (aka Academy Admissions process). Having more than 1 nomination is also great, but not required. Applicants with more than one nomination have an opportunity at competing in more rounds of the process before being dumped into the qualified applicant pool for a chance at an at-large bid.

We do not know how many appointments can be charged to this specific nomination category. My guess is that it is more than 2 nationally, and I would view it as a higher percentage chance of appointment than a congressional or senatorial nom who at most would have 2 open slots per year. Quick note - there is a difference between charged nominations to the nominating authority and the number they can actually nominate in a given admissions cycle. That is a huge rabbit hole covered by other threads here.

Takeaway - Having 1 nom is all that is needed and anything more is a bonus.
