2009 Plebe Parent Tips

Also, KP is just like any other colleges in that varsity sports coaches can recruit athletes for their programs as well and hence a coach appointment :)

Just to make sure misinformation doesn't get out there....there are no "coach appointments" at Kings Point. A recruited athlete to the varsity sports does get help in the fact that he/she has an advocate on campus; however, the candidate must still meet all requirements and be admitted by the admissions committee.

As to the BBQ's. The waterfront BBQ has always been the most open of all of them. The other BBQ's have tended to be more for recruited athletes and not all of them are held on campus. I'm glad to see some of the club activities get in on the action. If you don't end up attending one it's not that big of a deal, nobody remembers who was at one and who wasn't, but as noted above it does give some faces to recognize. I remember mine and it was more of a nervous tension than anything among all the new plebes while we watched the upperclass float around like they were on clouds  especially the new 3rd classmen who were seeing their replacements for the first time, haha :)

Thanks KP2001 for explaining my coach appointment, that's what I meant, but it did not come out that way :) Coaches do have "appointments" but the candidates must meet the same academic qualifications and get a congressional nomination like everyone else. The thing about recruited athletes is that if you are from a state that has a large number of applicants (ie, virginia, md, texas,) then being a recruited athlete gives you a tad bit of an advantage.
