Just in case Back up plan

My D has an appointment and will be attending USNA. Also D has an NROTC scholarship plus a few full rides to some great schools. She will be calling this week to release NROTC scholarship (good luck to some other deserving kid)

I would like to know if anyone is preparing a back up plans just in case of an unforeseen circumstance or injury? Is sending in a deposit is deceitful or is it sound planning. I'm looking in the right place for some sound advise. This forum has been a tremendous resource.

ladderdaddy: We sent in deposit for a freshman orientation and housing. Then, son prepared letters saying he was at USNA and wouldn't be showing up at Texas A&M. I mailed those letters when we returned from I-Day.

Know of a USAFA kiddo here who got there, came down with gall bladder problems, and couldn't finish the summer. They sent him home with the caveat that he could start again the following summer. He ended up in community college that first year.

Yes, things can happen. Some folks hold on to their Plan B until the end of Plebe summmer. Last year 15 plebes washed out before PPW. So, if the thought of going to community college does not sit well with your D, then you'd better hold on to Plan B.

Community college would probably work for most if they knew they could attend the SA the following year. Sometimes things happen that would rule out SA attendance. Then, you'd probably be wishing for that plan B.
 
One caveat: state schools may allow this. But the Common Application service notes that putting a deposit down at more than one school may cause acceptances to be rescinded by all. If in doubt,call the Plan B admissions office and let them know what you're doing.

Back Up plan

My son, who has an appointment to USNA, hit a snag recently with his back up plan. It was 8 months ago when he completed his NROTC application and he has changed his mind about choices. He has decided he doesn't want to attend the school where he has the NROTC scholarship or the school where he has a full academic ride, if something were to happen to prevent him from attending the academy. So instead he is holding a spot at another school without a scholarship. He requested to transfer the NROTC but that school is full. So he is releasing all the scholarships and holding a spot with admissions at his new back up plan school.

As was said earlier, good news for some other kids on waiting lists!

you are welcome and good luck to those still waiting--just a note-my sons DODMERB was the reason for the hold up-there was a verification they were checking out ---from what i was told the stack at DODMERB is huge and they were still confirming some apps.

My son hasn't received anything from DODMERB. Did everyone else receive an email or letter from them on their status?

Our son received a letter from DoDMERB each time he was deemed medically qualified for a SA. Since he applied to 3 SA's he received 3 letters telling him he was medically qualified. You can also check the DodMERB website and it will state for each SA applied to if your son is qualified and the date a letter was mailed stating that he was qualified. https://dodmerb.tricare.osd.mil/

Praying for good news for all of us this week.
 
We received a message he was medically qualified if we sent verification of a heart murmur he had as a child that it was no longer there. I had to find his medical records and verify he grew out of it. that had to be returned to DODMERB it took them forever to verify the amendment. that was what took so long according to DODMERB they had a lot of such info that had to be verified.
