My vision prescription is as follows

D.V. OD SPH : -.75 CYL : -.50 AXIS: 110
OS SPH : -.75 CYL : -.50 AXIS 090
P.D. 66MM

I have no clue what my 20/_____ vision is but my ALO is telling me that glasses are acceptable for UPT and that my vision should not affect my chances of UPT. I have no vision problems other than that I am nearsighted (can't read signs from afar) and my vision has remained the same for the past 6 years.

What is the current 2018 policy on vision and will it affect my chances at UPT? How does one apply for or get LASIK at the academy? Are glasses allowed for UPT?

These are the two websites I just pulled up. It's interesting because they have conflicting requirements.

https://www.afrotc.com/college-life/flight

https://www.airforce.com/frequently...quirements-if-i-hope-to-be-an-air-force-pilot

The part that is a little ambiguous is:
  • Meet refraction, accommodation and astigmatism requirements

Here's the most recent Air Force Instruction 48-123, Medical Examinations and Standards.

It sounds like you need to find out what your 20/___ vision is (both near and far).

Will it affect my chances at UPT?
Vision requirements play a major role in meeting pilot qualifications, so yes. What we do not know is what the requirements will be a few years from now.

How does one apply for or get LASIK at the academy? There's a qualifying physical sometime around sophomore/junior year. You will be asked if you are seeking a rated career field and if you are interested in corrective surgery. They'll run some tests to determine if you're a candidate for corrective surgery and if you are, then it will be scheduled.

Are glasses allowed for UPT? Check out Section 6F of the Air Force Instruction 48-123, Medical Examinations and Standards I linked above. The short answer is yes.
