Good Morning, my DD submitted her NROTC application and went to board in October 2020. She has not heard back as of yet on her status. We contacted her coordinator on this and she was informed last night that since the new application season has now begun, and the board did not make a decision on her application, they would not do so at this time. But there are board dates into April 2021 from the 2020 application process? Does this sound correct? that they wouldn't make any decision at all, even though she completed all the steps and board in October? This coordinator just replaced the original one we worked with. I wanted to confirm this before she calls today.

Yeah... I don't think that is correct at all. From what I have read, scholarships would continue to be offered throughout April. DS's coordinator was terrible. They need to get him back on a Sub doing his Nuclear stuff because scholarship coordinator is not the Navy job for him!

You are correct in that scholarships are typically awarded thru April. It is not automatic that a packet is forwarded to the next Board. The Board can decline the application and it stops there. Not saying this is the case, but it is a possibility that her application will not be Boarded in April.

I would assume and I could be wrong that if she is being rejected, they would inform her of that? I can't imagine a government review process leaving this open-ended with no outcome. but again I could be wrong.. lol

You are correct in terms of final notification. The final selection status will be reported in the portal. In years past, a letter was also mailed. Out of curiosity, what status is shown in the portal?

@Repetie6501 - some unofficial info we rec’d last week from Plan B school NROTC, from the Lt. in charge of Freshman: he said boards are still happening & they had even done some interviews recently - which I thought was kind of late for those! It’s just anecdotal info so didn’t want to post until an SAF expert chimed in first but the Lt. seemed to have insider info. He works directly with the NROTC recruiters @ Great Lakes - knew the name of my son’s recruiter so I feel the info has potential to be legit 😉..... good luck 🍀! DS is ready to hear one way or the other!

Thank you. it's just so weird that her file supposedly went to Board in October and still nothing. We are holding out for no news is good news. Regardless of the outcome, she is still moving forward with ROTC at RIT this fall. RIT was her 1st choice school and she committed to them. They even offered an accelerated BS/MS degree in the same 5-year program as the BS in ME/Aerospace. so fingers are crossed.

You will not be left in limbo. DD will receive a final decision either way. Until the board decides to award or decline a scholarship, it will be considered at each board. This could be a matter of miscommunication; what he coordinator meant vs what was heard; how it was said or a misunderstanding of the process.

Sounds like your DD has her ducks 🦆 in a row ! That’s all we can do at this point. We are falling in love 😍 w/ Plan B for DS. I told him he was like the Bachelor - falling in love w/ two contestants 🤪.... even if he doesn’t get the NROTC scholarship he’ll still join as a Programmer - they are really “courting” him even w/o a scholarship which helps a lot 😉....any “no” will sting but I think w/ a Plan B in place these kiddos can pick themselves up & get ready to take on Freshman year 📚!

My DS got his denial letter in late July

Wow; that is late. I've never heard of one coming out that late.
I think the snail mail letters were delayed last year as the offices closed down due to COVID and they were trying to sort out the summer training. Pretty sure all portals were updated by the end of April with final decisions.

My DS’s wasn’t any better. He would go missing and not update the file for weeks at a time. The Army’s process is way better

My DD submitted her NROTC application in Oct 2020 too. She had the first interview in Oct and the second interview with CO in mid-Dec. CO offered her ISR scholarship. She received the official email/mail Scholarship in mid-March. GOODLUCK!!!
