Good morning!
I visited USAFA on an athletic recruiting trip before the New Year, and I'm still waiting on a direct or prep school appointment.
I am starting to getting the feeling I am being strung along. I hope this is not the case, but the process and lack of information is making me question. My communication with the coach has been ongoing the past year and a half (maybe a little longer), with no clear answers. Since my recruiting visit, I feel as if I get tossed a bone here and there and then nothing. Is this a common practice for recruiting at USAFA?
I have been told my information has been sent up to the board and that this past Tuesday was the final selection. I emailed the coach to ask if they heard anything back, but I have not received an answer. I understand the process may be out of their hands at this point, but it has been so long and frustrating. I am certainly holding out hope since my portal hasn't changed.
I feel my packet is highly competitive and did received a National ROTC Scholarship. It is my "back up plan" and I am very thankful for it, but my life long dream has been USAFA and to follow in the footsteps of my father's alma mater.
I am wondering if anyone else is in the same boat as me, and if anyone knows how long they announce recipients after the board meets?

If you want a guess not an answer?

If the coach has not called or emailed you back it’s because they are waiting for an answer themselves. They want to give you an actual answer.

At this point in time I am guessing they know it’s not going to be a direct admit and are seeing if they will get a prep school spot for you.

And, depending on your place in the recruiting pecking order, the final answer the coaches gets now from admissions , may not be the actual final answer they get in a day or two,.

IMO and experience the long wait for an answer with all its frustrations , for those recruited sports types on the bubble, may be a lot better for you than a quick answer given to you last week,

Just a guess

Good Luck

That makes a lot of sense and prep has been part of our conversation the past couple of months, which I am 1000% fine with. Thank you for your feedback and expertise.

I have gone thru SA sports recruiting a few times now for players and family members. It’s never been stress free or full of concret answers until you get a concrete answer.

The only serious SA sports recruit “I am personally aware of” that did not get direct or prep had their admission blow up over medical.

BTW I am a big fan of the prep schools .

I am clear on medical, my DoDMERB was clean with no issues. :-)
The prep school seems like a good option and I would love the opportunity. We have a lot of military friends whos kids went to prep and they highly recommend it.

We are in the same boat here. Recruited, blue-chipped, and signed, cleared DoDMERB... waiting. Coaches say they are doing everything that they can, but that it's in the hands of admissions.

Attending the USAFA Prep School was one of my best decisions and made life MUCH easier my freshman year. The Prep School curriculum centers on chemistry, math, and English...the three areas that pose the biggest academic challenge for freshmen. The vast majority of prep school graduates go on to graduate from USAFA in the top half of their respective classes. Prep School graduates are automatically enrolled into USAFA the next year.

You also make some great friends while at the "P-school" and that you'll enter USAFA with the following summer. You'll already have friends on day one, minute one, that you can rely on.

Highly recommend you accept an appointment to the Prep School if you are not offered an appointment to USAFA, directly.

It would be an honor to receive a prep school appointment, and I plan to accept it if awarded the opportunity.
