This may sound like a broken record - but I have read here where the 3Q letter is a good thing - I had a previous grad that did receive an appt - but never a 3Q letter. I now have a Candidate that does have a 3Q letter - and many are chiming in that their candidate had a 3Q and did not receive an appointment. If you get a 3Q letter - are you "out"- do people with 3Q's get appointments? This wait is KILLING ME! Sitting here with a 3Q - and 2 nominations (Congresswoman and Senator).

All a 3Q letter means is that you're fully qualified and still in the running. However, not everyone who is qualified gets one, for whatever reason. Whims of the RCs, I suppose.

My DS GOT 3Q letter on his portal last week and then got his BFE with appointment Saturday 2.17.18 by United States Postal Service!

My DD was 3Q and did not initially get a direct appointment. She got an AOG scholarship BUT got a direct appointment 3 WEEKS...Yes WEEKS...later.
You can formulate, speculate, reasearch, worry, stress, obsess all day long ( which believe me I DID!!!) But bottom line...it's the needs of the Army and what they want, who they want and when they want them. The process is complex . There are probably many "If A then B" formulas that are used.
So at the end of the day, I know the wait is killing you. It killed me too.

When did your son have everything submitted to his portal?

Rough / unofficial / IMHO estimate based on total available #MOC / nominations adjusted for DoDMERB/CFA DQs etc and waiting list turnover is 30% - 50% odds of eventual appointment once 3Q + nom. Still very competitive process from this pool.

The odds before 3Q and nomination are pretty awful (in the less than 10% realm).
After 3Q and nomination, they can be pretty great (as much as the 45% to 50% realm).

They say this is the greatest test of patience in a lifetime, since the application process and eventual wait drags on and on.
It's almost a flip of the coin. If I had odds like that, I would buy lottery tickets!

The glass is half-full, right?

And it seems to me, being a competitive parent makes it even worse. Possibly worse than the wait for the candidates themselves.... All part of the wild ride.

Haha, I received an email yesterday from my liaison that stated that I had finished my application and now all I can do is wait. I guess it’s an unofficial 3Q, but good news he mentioned that many appointments will be going out within the next couple of weeks. For many, the waiting game will be over soon. Good luck everyone.

My DS is now medically qualified after the waiver process so I guess he is 3Q. He hasn't gotten a letter, but we did get a TWE yesterday from USMA that almost gave me a heart attack! I was shaking when I opened it only to find it was a request for his 7th semester grades (that had already been sent weeks before) and was dated Feb. 3 (we live in Germany). Only letter by mail we've ever gotten. Normally they add the letter to the portal and you don't receive it in the mail. We got this letter through the portal as well. Funny, not funny.
