I had applied for an NROTC scholarship this year and I have submitted everything needed (in October 2023). For the past couple months every time I check the netfocus website to see my application status, it says, “The NSTC selection/placement office has received your application” and “no decision has been made on your application”. I had been told that the decisions would take 2-3 weeks after the end of the board however after reading many comments, it can take until April. Does this mean that my application is being rejected at a board and being moved to the next one? How would I be informed if my application had been denied or approved? I’m not really familiar with the whole process and neither is anyone in my family so this whole thing has been pretty confusing and I don’t know if I’ve done something incorrectly because I basically did the entire process independently. I had been in some contact with a NROTC coordinator from my area but I have not heard from him any time recently so I don’t know if I’m missing anything that he would be emailing. Does anyone know more about the waiting process or have any experience?

Number one... Check with your coordinator/recruiter to ensure that everything has been completed.

Maybe follow up with the PNS that you interviewed with.

That said... Navy has a board every month and it's my understanding that they don't look at all of the applications each month.

Once you are reviewed, if selected, you'll receive an email from the Navy and then a letter a couple of weeks later.

If your portal says "No decision has been made", then they have everything they need. You don't need to contact the coordinator/recruiter or a PNS. They will not be able to help you. This is a situation where no news is good news. You will not get any updates until you get a awarded notification or a denied notification. It could be May before you hear anything. I know it is hard, and I feel for you because my DS was in the same situation last year. Patience is your best and only option.

The NROTC has 2 boards a month from January until end of April. There is a possibility of being waitlisted after that for alittle while, but you will get a notification either way. Your application likely scored near the cutoff number, so it was not immediately rejected, but didn't score high enough for the last boards. This is a good thing. You are still in the running and have a chance. No news is good news.

Take this advice from someone who was in your shoes. Stay away from the portal. Check it once a week and that is it. Focus on your Senior year and plan B. It seems like it is taking forever I know, but if you focus on other things it will go by faster.

Good luck!

Based on the new software process which seems to be helping speed decisions along, I am going to make an educated guess. My guess is that your application was presented to a board in either November or December. If no decision has been made, you could be on an alternate list. I am going to predict you will hear some news by the end of March. That is when alternates start to be chosen. As mentioned by others, this is a waiting game now which no one likes. But it is just part of the process.

Hello sir! This message is a lot but your feedback would be very well appreciated. I have been reading through a lot of your comments and I was wondering what you personally feel my chances of receiving the NROTC MO scholarship are. I am currently a Poolee and the Guide for my pool, I have been the team captain all 4 years of high-school for my wrestling team as well as captain throughout all of middle-school, I have only ever gotten 2 grades below an A (high B’s) my entire high school career with an unweighted GPA of 3.9 and in all Honor/Dual Enrollment/AP classes, I was award a USMC and NWCA Leadership and Character Award, I also applied for the Margaret Brewer Scholarship, I have a PFT of 264 (a would be 269 if I had gotten one more full pull-up to be counted), an ACT of 27, an ASVAB of 84, a little over 50 hours of community service from December to now, and a few other leadership rewards in wrestling and I was also on the early board. I know this was a lot but your feedback would definitely help to put me at ease. Also, I do apologize if I put this message under something unrelated, I attempted to find a thread that was similar to keep things on track as the rules say.

MO recipient here, I know this is off topic for the thread so I apologize to the OP. I would say you have a very good chance of receiving the scholarship. You have a first class PFT and an ACT equivilent of like a 1280 (I think) on the SAT. Those are both within the standards of the Marine Option ROTC scholarship. Being an active poolee is good, and being guide is great, demonstrates intrest and commitment, which is key. My hesitency to say that you have got it in the bag stems from two things: First, is that you said you were boarded on the early board and are yet to hear anything back. Which, to my knowledge, means you were not selected on the first board. When this happens, applications are rolled back to the second board, which takes place in Febuary. So on the bright side, you may hear back very soon on your status. Second, is that I don't know what district you are in. My district, 20 something out 80 something were selected. This could be very diffrent in districts which include such states as Texas, California, New York, Florida, etc. Frankly I'm shocked you werent picked up on the early board, however I guess it must be different if you are from a larger district. Best of luck and feel free to ask any questions! (I know the wait can be excruciating.)

It is incredibly excruciating to just wait for a response, I dream of making the drive to my dream college with the scholarship and pray everyday. Thank you so much for your response and I don’t know what district I am in but I am from Nashville. I was also informed in December that I was rolled back to the regular board. The board for my district just met on the 22nd.

You probably know this already but if you don’t receive a scholarship & can afford the first year, go crush it in your unit as a College Programer. Your hard work & dedication will be noticed - especially if you are a PT stud. That was my DS - he’s never looked back & actually has outlasted several who started with a scholarship. He was awarded a 3-yr sideload ….

Sorry I missed this earlier. If you were going Navy option, I would tell you I thought you were a shoe in so long as you did well on your interview.

As others have commented, the MO side of the house can vary based on the region you are in. With all that being said, if you were to join as a college programmer, I feel highly confident you would get the 3 year sideload scholarship.

While I think you will wind up getting selected, my one bit of advice is that should you decide to go College Programmer to try for a sideload, try to pick a unit which has a Marine Colonel as PNS. While some will say it doesn't really matter, I would tell you that having a Colonel strongly recommending you to be a Marine Option will resonate much better.

Do you think at this point, 2 weeks after my board met on February 22nd, that it’s too late for me to find out if I got it or not? I’ve been seeing people on the forums getting accepted around last week and someone in my district said they heard word they received it but turned it down a few days ago.

DS was told he received the MO last week, but Netfocus still says waiting decision and he has not received any other information. Only verbal. We still don't even know to which school. Hang in there & maybe reach out to your recruiter.

Your ROO should have the best and most up to date information.
