Good afternoon collective brain trust, my DS is a rising senior. He is 6'4 and the dr says he may have another inch or two in him. We have been researching (i.e. googling) height restrictions in various service branches and are not coming up with much. I have seen several references to a 6'5 limit for pilots. At this point he in interested although not wed to aviation. Does anyone know of any specific service community height restrictions? I feel like subs might.. Also, I'd love feedback from anyone that has pursued aviation at 6'4 plus and any potential issues. Thanks!

At 6'3' DH was good to go, though I'm pretty sure he kinda slumped when they took his height to make sure he wasn't too tall. But it also has to do with sitting height -- can you fit sitting in the cockpit of the trainers? Don't know what that height limit is -- DH's height is in his long legs.

First, there is a published max /min height restriction for Commissioning. Second, there are warfare community specific requirements, and even requirements within communities.

Those issues usually arise during the preCommissioning physical. I recall sitting in contraption that measures various height /length parameters to see if I was flight qualified I am pretty average sized, so was a non -issue, but back in the day an average sized person who had longer than average legs (specifically hip to knee) could be disqualified from all jet aviation since the all jet aviation training went through the A-4 syllabus, and the A-4 had a small cockpit (and any ejection with long legs was not a good thing).

DS's height is definitely in his legs! 36 inch inseam is starting to look like high-waters...

he does indeed. also plays first and third but unfortunately (for baseball purposes) is right-handed.
That's OK. A 6'4" pitcher with any kind of movement and velocity is welcome on any roster. He shortens the plate to rubber distance from 60'6" to about 45 feet. He looks like a giant on a LL field to a batter. Scary

That is just about verbatim what his coach says.

Apply and if he keeps growing, deal it with it then. Yes height does play a factor in things for flying, but measurements come in many factors. Sitting height and measurement from your knee to your backside. There are many others. Also there are some specific aircraft measurements too. Some one might be qualified to fly, but too tall for an airframe that has an ejection seat. Bottom line, if he wants to serve as a Naval Officer, apply. Keep an open mind about the future and what it might hold terms of service assignment and specific airframes.

Well, we're dealing with the other side of it. My DD would love to fly, but as of now she's barely over 5'1". We told her to start sleeping like a bat. 🦇

Though it was LONG ago, my hubby played basketball at Navy and went aviation ending up in E-2 Hawkeyes flying off carriers. He’s 6’8” so I think your DS should be ok. Jets are usually the problem due to ejection seats but there are lots of other options!

From a submarine aspect... the racks are only so long if I remember correctly 76", which for me (72")was just right with feet stretched out.
