A New Respect for Lithuania

Yes, the Lithuanians were ferocious in their anti-communism and nationalism. Tremendous fighters. But a lot also energetically participated in the holocaust of their Jewish fellow countrymen circa 1941-1943. Read "Hitler's Willing Executioners" by Daniel Goldhagen. Even the Nazis were chilled by the Lithuanians enthusiasm.

And, to be more current, even though Lithuania should be afraid of Putin's obvious plans to recreate the Russian empire, Lithuania has been spending about 1% of its GDP in defense (whereas the US has been spending about 4%). You'd think Lithuania would be a sort of Baltic Israel, or at least South Korea, but they ain't.

I believe they are content to let the US spend its money, sent its soldiers, ships, planes, etc to defend Lithuania from Moscow's ambitions.
