A Parent's Guide to Year One at USAFA

Lots of questions - hope I can get most of them answered.

Sponsor families -- Doolie Day Out is midway between BCT1 and BCT 2. They will be assigned a sponsor family HOWEVER this may not be their permanent one. They should get notification of the perm sponsor families right around the start of the academic year. If they do not get one, your cadet (not you) can send an email to cadet.sponsor@usafa.edu to request a family. In the meantime, most sponsor families allow their sponsored cadets to bring friends, but PLEASE ask first.

Parents, if you have not joined the 2026 parent Facebook page, yet, you may wish to do so. From there you fill be able to join BCT squadron and academic squadron groups if you desire. Unlike the Parent Resource Page (which is a wonderful resource), the 2026 Facebook page is specific for 2026 parents/guardians and has the USAFA Parent Liaison, Webguy, and other Parent Ambassadors to help you navigate these 4 years. Is there drama? Some, but we try hard to make sure it stays at a minimum and that rumors are quashed as soon as they are posted.

Search facebook for "usafa2026parents" -- for security, you will be required to send an email proving appointment. Message me if you have any questions.

Sunscreen is issued. They are told to apply often. They will be issued camelbaks and told to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.

Medics are available for minor scrapes, nose bleeds (common in the dry climate), blisters. Tell your appointee - DO NOT HESISTATE to ask for medical care. There is always an ambulance at the ready, just in case of the rare mishap. Remember that USAFA does not wish to harm their future officers.

Once squadron assignments are posted links will be posted on the main fb pages. I can’t remember if it was the class page or main parent page but as long as you’re members of those you should be good.
Keep in mind that BCT/academic squadron groups are becoming less and less active. Lots of ebb and flow to these groups & some are now defunct

Great advice! What is the best way to connect with other parents in my son's summer squadron? Create a FB page? Thanks!
Join the 2026 parent Facebook page. If you have not done so already, you're missing out on a lot of good information specific for 2026 parents including information from USAFA and the AOG.

FYI- some squadrons may not have an active fb page. One of the new moms offered to be admin of ours (ours is a long story and the admin had been "locked out"; our new admin did a great job!) and she created a new fb page so that may happen.

They get the opportunity to buy some stamps from the cadet store but it’s much easier if they take a few pre addressed and already stamped envelopes to send home.
They ran out of stamps quite often so better to bring
