USCGA freshmen are only called Swabs during Swab Summer, then they are called Cadets after earning their shoulder boards.

"Four degree" or "4 dig" is the common USAFA slang. Not many people actually used the term "Doolie" very often, at least when I was there.

No - they are still swabs until they see a swab. Only a swab would think he wasn't until then.

DD considers herself a 4/C cadet and can’t wait for boards to earn carry on. She stopped thinking of herself as a swab immediately after swab summer ended. That’s just her position and opinion. Most everyone she knows also doesn’t consider themselves swabs either. They just think of themselves as 4/C and do the best they can to survive until carry on. And of course look forward to being 3/C.

I rest my case.
