So, up until recently, I'd pretty much written off the idea of a Service Academy as my college choice... ROTC sounded easier and less stressful. More normal, you know? then in the span of the last three days, all of this happened:
Day before Yesterday:
-I write my summer essay. I wrote about how I got denied from SLE, SLS, and the NRA YES summit, and how being denied from all three gave me the opportunity to go to Boy's State (the motto is don't quit) which was a life changing experience. I finished by talking about how I take pride in failure and let it drive me forward.
Yesterday:
-I got a call from my admissions counselor, he's also known locally as West Point's "godfather". He has a super awesome track record of getting people in. Including a friend of mine who graduated this year. He talked about my file, said it looks great, and my leadership is 10/10. He said if I can raise my ACT score a few points, we'd be in business.
-My grandmother emailed West Point inquiring about admission. (my grandfather graduated in 1949 and was a general, not sure which specific rank)(Out of there 17 grandchildren, I'm the only one who has even thought about the Army, including West Point) They replied by copying my Admissions counselor, and thanked my grandfather for his service.
-An ad for admissions popped up on my instagram. (spooky right?)
Today:
-I log onto my ACT account... I raised my score 2 points. And not to flex but I got a 32 on reading. Like that's pretty cool right?
So... I kinda sat back and thought about these past few days. Like maybe getting in isn't so crazy as I thought. Maybe I CAN do this! I like to pride myself on being the best, and setting the example for others. So, instead of rolling over and taking the L from admissions and settling for ROTC, I'm about to take this head-on. But be it God's will that I do ROTC instead of West Point, so be it. I'll sleep easy at night knowing I gave everything I had. Hooah!! Go Army!
In shorter terms, I thought I was done posting under USMA. But I'm back baby.
