Hello to everyone visiting my thread, I have a couple questions concerning the academic process of Admissions to USNA. I understand that a lot of the admissions process isnt only weighted on academics but also on SAT scores, extra curriculars, physical fitness, leadership positions and medical qualification but as of now I believe my GPA is really low. I hold a 3.8 weighted GPA as of now, projecting it to become around 4.2 by the end of my 2nd semester (junior) and am in the first fifth of my graduating class, but from an honest point of view, do I really stand a chance academic wise? I recently had a talk with a principal at my school and he was a midshipman in USNA awhile back and he told me how most of the members in his brigade were all top honors students who graduated at the top 5% of their class.

I guess my real question is with my academic performance as of now, am I qualified?

It depends more about what classes you have taken. It's important that you take the highest level math and science classes offered and get at least a B.

I have a 3.55 GPA. I'm scholastically Q'd by NA and AFA, have two nominations from my congressman and and one from a senator, and have an AROTC scholarship.

Like Roman said, you should be fine.

I had a 3.57 Weighted (I now have a 3.65 after last semester) when I became a candidate and received my two nominations (One Congressman, one Senator). You should be absolutely fine. If you are the kind of person they want, a 3.8 GPA should be more than enough.

Your grades are in the parameters of the Class of 2012. If you're a minority (woman or other) you might look real competitive with the 3.8 GPA.
Forget what the principal said, if you don't apply, you have no idea if you're qualified! Try to finish the year with a 4.0 average and apply for NASS and see what happens. I wish you success!

Thank you all so much! Really gave me a boost in confidence!

Spot On

Roman is "spot on," (exactly right). If you have challenged yourself, you will have a few bumps in the academic road, but you will have learned how to work hard and accept a good grade for hard work done well.

Of note, your class standing, even now, is good. Regardless of how you make out in applying to NASS, continue to pursue a USNA appointment.

Currently taking AP U.S. History AP Biology AP English Language Honors Math Analysis Honors Physics and an Associated Student Body Leadership class, another question though, next year (senior) im planning to have 5 classes (AP Government, AP Art History, AP Calculus, Regular English and another ASB period, will it show that im being lazy on my senior year because im only taking 3 Aps compared to my current classes? (English is the subject I have the most trouble with and there aren't any honors choices for it)

No! Your course load this year is tough, and with 3 aps it is still tough I don't think they will have a problem with that
