I apologize if I am asking this question if the answer is somewhere else on the forum, I just have not been able to find it.

MY DS was awarded and accepted an AROTC scholarship about a month ago. His first choice was a NROTC scholarship, but results were not out yet.

On Friday, he was notified that he was awarded a NROTC scholarship, which he also accepted, but needs to clear the Dodmerbs waiver process because of a stress fracture a year ago. He also had to clear Dodmerbs for the AROTC scholarship, which he successfully did.

He accepted the NROTC scholarship because he's still not 100% guaranteed anything until the Dodmerb waiver get cleared fro NROTC.

Anyone have any insight about how to move forward from here? He's attending VMI regardless of the scholarship. Should he call there and discuss the situation with them? Is it a problem that he accepted both? He understands he may be taking up someone else's slot, but he has earned both and will eventually give one up.

Thanks!

He's not "taking up someone else's slot". They are both his slots-- he earned them. Don't let anyone tell you different.

It sounds like you already know how this will work-- he will have to pick one, not the other. The important thing is that he commits to one or the other, without mental reservation or purpose of evasion. ;)

The Navy is very different from the other branches in many ways. I find a lot of commonality with my fellow sister-service USMC and Army officers, and there is a lot of overlap in terminology, heritage, and customs and courtesies. My Navy counterparts are terrific folks, but always a little different in perspective and approach.

Congrats to your son (what an accomplishment!), and I hope he finds his decision to serve both honorable and fruitful.
