If you accept an appointment to another SA and USAFA offers you an appointment after your acceptance can you still change your mind and accept the USAFA offer? I know you can do this with ROTC scholarships but I can’t find anything about SA to SA even though people say some SAs offer appointments after May 1.

I have read on here that if you accept an offer from a SA, but then get an appointment from another SA that you would prefer to attend, then you can back out of an appointment. You should let them know asap. That said, you do not have to accept until May 1st, so I'd hold off, as you will likely hear from USAFA either way before May 1st.

Thank you. The person I’m advising said he went to an SA this weekend and someone from admissions told him they will start rescinding offers soon. In assuming the admissions rep is posturing.

Is it definitely a SA offer? If so, the deadline is May 1st. If it's a prep offer, they could have earlier deadlines. About the posturing, I am not surprised that admissions puts on pressure to accept/decline. There are a lot "waiting in the wings" for the spot.

There is no penalty in ACCEPTING the offer in hand today and then changing your mind prior to the report date for INDOC/BCT. I received a late USAFA appoint and turned around and declined the other previously accepted SA appointment.

Can they really rescind?
Anything is possible, but would generally be for extreme circumstances. In general, candidates are extended an offer of appointment with a prescribed acceptance deadline. Failing to declare by the end of the deadline is an auto-decline on behalf of the candidate.

Let's say a candidate is offered an appointment and they accept. This appointee now makes national news for a cheating scandal or drug bust. Would USAFA ensure they could rescind an offer of appointment based on new information about the character of the appointee? SURE!

Does USAFA just rescind because they are impatient? No.
