I know this has been answered in forums about ROTC, but I couldn't find anything for West Point. When the class of 2024 reports for BCT, will we have to take the APFT or ACFT?

I believe from a leaked photo on this site that the class of 2024 will be taking the ACFT.

In the case that they may not, train for the ACFT anyway... it'll get you in good enough shape for the APFT.

It will be a modified version of the ACFT, to include hand release pushups, leg tucks, and the 2 mile run in the beginning of Beast. At the end of Beast we’ll take the full version. Check the West Point website and email for more details.

Yes, that is correct. It's not a be-all-end-all if you do not pass the first (diagnostic) one during CBT. It is important to pass the second one, however, unless you enjoy mandatory morning PT during the academic year.
Do you only have to do morning PT if you fail the second ACFT? Or are there reasons someone would have to do it?

Your company will have a physical development officer (PDO) who is the cadet in charge of overseeing the company’s physical fitness program. If you fail to meet what your class minimum standards are (it increases by year) on whatever the test of record is (APFT, moving time ACFT now), struggle to pass the IOCT, or any other stated requirements in your company’s fitness program, you can be subject to AM PT until you meet the standard. So company dependent to a certain degree but usually not an issue for the majority of cadets

@Casey you were saying it increased by year. So when you were there the test of record was obviously the APFT. So for example, was the minimum run time for plebes 15:54? and then somewhere around 15:30 for Yuks and finally around 15:15 for Cows or am I just totally off here?

Yea, that kind of idea. It was based on points in each category for the APFT so it was scaled by age and gender based on the APFT scale with super scaling taken into account. Army passing is a 60 in each event. Minimum as a plebe I want to say was 70 points per event and then it increased by 5-10 every year but I honestly couldn't tell you what the exact requirement was by firstie year; it wasn't something I struggled to hit and won't be for the vast majority of cadets. It kind of gets ingrained in you that the expectation is you will strive to max. You didn't receive a failing grade if you passed the Army standard (if you consider a D a "passing" grade which I want to say a D was. A B+ was a 300 to give you an idea how the scale works there for grading). Instead, if you didn't meet your class standard, you lost class privileges (i.e. off post privileges) until you brought your score up.

Its a far better test than the APFT. Its a great test, you will enjoy taking it.

I just want to make sure, would I be taking this new ACFT or the APFT as a class of 2025? And is the 2 mile run minimum really 21 minutes? Seems a little slow, but I'm not complaining. And also on the link to the minimums, what do SIG and HVY stand for?

Test is most likely going to be ACFT 3.0. which is the newest iteration released last month.

Significant and Heavy were tiers of grades on the test associated with different branch/MOS. ACFT 3.0 has removed those.

21 minutes for the run and all minimums are easier because test is gender/age neutral. Additionally, the run is after the other 5 events and the Sprint/Drag/Carry wears on the legs prior to the 2mile run. As an officer meeting the minimums will not be acceptable as a leader in your formation.

Focus on training form and intensity. The test is 60 minutes or so in length but with minimal rest times built in.

Train for the ACFT and you will be prepared for the APFT. The opposite is not true.

You will be taking the ACFT as a cadet. I've taken the ACFT four (?) times now. The minimum standards are low, but not easy for some, and you'll be crapped on here for only making the bare minimums anyways.

Yeah I think I can get a good score for most of these, I'm only worried about the 2 mile run. 21 minutes is easy even for me, but I just simply do not like running. I guess I should start getting used to it though

You will be taking the ACFT. The Army recently got rid of the HVY,SIG,MOD standards. As of now you just have to pass which is 60 across the board. You will be assessed based on gender and the overall Army so try and do your best.
