Hello!

I just got my scores back from the ACT--

34 Writing
35 Math
35 Reading
33 Combined Writing/Essay
27 Science

Obviously I messed up in the science portion. I was wondering if I should retake it, or does West Point only care about Writing and Math?

Thanks!

Any amazing young man or woman who is bright enough to achieve those scores, and also inquisitive enough to seek out this forum for advice, probably knows the answer already. But I'll play...

Those scores are of course exceptional. (But you know that) On each of the SA websites it states they only need Math and Reading; and they super score those even.

If you feel like you need to see a 36, retake the test. Otherwise submit and hope that the rest of your package is just as exceptional.

Science does figure in, but it is minor compared to Math and Reading. Where it could come more into play is if your school doesn't rank or is highly competitive. In that case your overall ACT average would be used as a proxy for your Rank in Class. In your specific case, even with a 27, you should still have a 33 average putting you in the top 1%, so no room for improvement there.

Don't know how the rest of your file looks, but if you feel you are at/above average on everything else, you should really focus on finishing your application, practicing for your nomination interviews, and working your Plan B options. You can always look at testing again in December or February to give yourself a little boost there once your are done with everything else.
