I know USMA (and all the other SAs) require you to take the writing portion of the ACT, but they also superscore. Is is possible to superscore with with different ACTs and one of them is non-writing?

I already have a score on an ACT w/ writing that I am reasonably satisfied with, but my school district is administering a free one in the next few weeks that the entire junior class has to take. It is not a practice or anything but a full legitimate ACT that you can report to colleges and so forth. However, they give everyone the regular ACT without the writing section. If by chance I do better than I previously have on one of the sections of this coming test, can I use it in my superscore?

At least for class of 2017, you only needed one writing score. DS took the ACT four times, two with writing, two without. His superscore contains high sub-scores from each of the four sittings.

Now for class of 2018, things could change. It's always best to ask admissions, which is what DS did last year (at about this time).

Good luck.

SAT

How about SAT? Will West Point convert and combine an ACT subscore with an SAT subscore (if it is the highest subscore acheived) to come up with a hybrid superscore?

No, they do not create hybrid scores for the ACT and SAT. Each test stands independent of the other.

Actually, the new plan is to take the higher component score from either test - like a super super score - so you could still end up with the SAT Math, and an ACT English, and so on. Still think if you want to use your ACT scores, you'll need to have that writing score at least once.
