ADHD Diagnosis

I was diagnosed with ADHD in sixth grade. I was on Concerta for something like one year. I have not renewed my prescription since 7th grade, and I have had solid academic success since then. I genuinely believe that I have outgrown my condition since sixth grade.

Could this disqualify me? Could I get a psychiatrist to note that I have outgrown this condition?

Whoever prescribed the meds should be able to make that determination. I'm not clear if you had a prescription but didn't refill it, or if you haven't had a prescription since 7th grade. If the latter then you should be fine given the amount of time and academic success without it. If it's the former then it may become more problematic. You may be DQed but based on what yo said you would be a good candidate for a waiver. Just my opinion and I do not practice medicine. My advice is worth what you paid for it.

You might actually not be DQ’ed at the DODMERB level but the write-up and documentation for your DODMERB physical will have to be detailed.

You should include the notes from the doctor who put you on the meds and took you off of them. This is important so DODMERB can see why you were put on the meds and why at a later time you were taken off. Hopefully, you were taken off because the doctor felt you didn’t need them anymore rather than, as kinnem said, you stopped on your own.

The other thing that’s important would probably be to include your HS grades as this would demonstrate academic success without being on meds. The doc doing you DODMERB physical could also document other evidence of success National Merit Finalist, etc.

Start gathering those doctor notes from 7th grade.

If, somehow, you get DQ’ed at the DODMERB level, then I’d say you’ve got a good chance for a waiver.

Unfortunately, I just never renewed the prescription. The doctor didnt take me off of them. However, could I have a doctor write me a letter that would highlight that I no longer have ADHD? Would that help?
