Hello! Could someone with experiences regarding one officer position or both talk a little bit about them? I attended Branch Week again this year and still had a tough time distinguishing between the two. Thank you!

AG is responsible for admin and personnel actions, i.e. running the S1 shop in a battalion. They process things like pay, leave, promotions, and other necessary actions to take care of soldiers. It requires a lot of paperwork and attention of detail, but a good S1 is absolutely essential to making a battalion run.

Quartermaster is a logistics branch. They’re going to generally be involved in roles making sure supplies, fuel, and maintenance support are available to take care of operations.

Prior to flight school my DW was a Quartermaster officer. She did everything from rigger (air dropping supplies), water purification, laundry and bath, to running a supply warehouse for a POW camp. If it involves eating, drinking, shooting, fueling it involves Quartermaster branch.
It’s normally a desirable branch.
I’ve only known a couple AG officers. Both were very good officers and were selected BZ (below zone) to major. As pointed out above, they primarily deal with personnel versus Quartermaster which deals with stuff.
I think some of Quartermaster, Ordinance and Transportation has been rolled up together. Someone with more recent experience can comment on that.

In recent years, the number of AG officers per class has dwindled. AG is the equivalent of being a Human Resources officer.
QM can go anywhere and focuses on a wide variety of logistical opportunities. There are more opportunities for command in QM because of the recent roll up of the 3 branches at the O-3 level.

The two AG officers I knew got their commands in non AG units, both HHCs. One a special operations aviation unit the other infantry.
