I had my congressional interviews this weekend, and I have some questions about that. If I do receive a nomination, that doesn't necessarily mean I'm guaranteed in, correct? I also just got an LOA during my official visit out to West Point this past month, but just because you receive a nomination, it doesn't mean you're for sure in? But let's say I do receive a nomination and do get chosen to become admitted, when should I receive the appointment/letter saying that I'm in? Just wondering on these few things! Thanks!

Your LOA should indicate that an appointment will be reserved for you if you meet certain criteria (3Q, DoDMERB, Nomination). If you are 3Q, DoDMERB and you have an LOA, all you need is a nomination. Once you get the nomination, you will get an offer of appointment, most likely early in the process (Feb) but it could come later. Bottom line, you're in a good position so stay healthy, finish out your senior year strong and stay out of trouble.

I've heard that loa's dont get reflected on a congressional slot. therefore loa's almost always get nominations since they don't really matter for the congressperson. but take it with a grain of salt since I've only heard and may be wrong.

Does your MOC know you received an LOA? Did you send a copy or mention it at the interview? For my DD she enclosed a copy of her LOA in her application packet and was told (by the Nomination coordinator for our MOC) that she was guaranteed a nomination. She was also told she would not get the Principal Nomination because she has an LOA and that they give it to someone without an LOA. Her nomination appeared on her portal today. Yay! If you have an LOA and you met all the conditions in your letter (medical, nomination, keep up with the academics) you should receive an appointment. It's still nerve wracking. I know my DD will feel better when she has the BFE in hand, me too!

I'm in the class of 2020 (a plebe this year). I received my LOA on September 3rd, 2015 and received my appointment just before Christmas. You will get yours as long as you stay healthy and don't do anything stupid. It should come at the end of January at the latest.
