Admissions is killing me!

I check it every day, multiple times a day. Even on the weekend when I'm pretty sure there's a .00000009% chance that portals update over the weekend.

Still no e-mail? ❓Better check the portal anyway. You never know. 🤷‍♀️

Multiply that times 5 schools DD applied to, 1 ROTC scholarship, and a million other small scholarships and I'm about to lose my mind. Mom's definitely do not get the credit for the gray hairs we gain during this process.

DD said she's locking her e-mail down mid-February when the majority of her decisions should come through just to drive me crazy.
I love my Mom. In 1980/81 she would drive home from work everyday to open the mailbox and open my mail addressed to me. Initially, I was upset, wouldn't you be, but came to realize that this whole college app process was pretty important to her. I remember back then that we interviewed with MALO's (now FFR's) personally at our home. She broke out the heirloom china for tea/coffee, which we never used, hoping to make a positive impression.

Ultimately it happened, much later than today's internet world, but it happened. Just wanted to share because many parents over multiple generations have endured this wait but under different albeit difficult circumstances.

Good Luck!

Thank you! I send my daughter a pic of the envelopes and ask permission to open. She told me "no" the first time. Now she knows I'm just going to beg until she says, "yes."

I recognized I had developed a problem so on a Thursday afternoon I decided to limit my portal checks to 1 per day. That’s just about cold turkey. The next day was tough but I ended up not checking it at all. Saturday morning I thought, as you stated, there will be no updates on the weekend but decided to check it anyway. I had to get my glasses to make sure I wasn’t seeing things but there it was, “ Your Decision is Ready”.
I know that doesn’t help anyone manage the habit but you should know that updates do happen on weekends. BTW, it was an acceptance letter and it was dated that Saturday.

I guess I know what I'm doing with my Saturdays now...

I’m not expecting to get in this time around either and end up checking the portal constantly just so the stress ends and it’s over. But since it is not over yet… the stress remains

This is my once-a-year revival of the Grim Portal Checker.
This is amazingly accurate and I love it so much. Have passed it along to my family (2 kiddos in HS (one of them SA applicant) + professor hubby + I work from home on my computer). Applicable to SOOO many scenarios....thank you for this!! :)

I think you need a certain warped element in your sense of humor to find it funny. It is certainly classic grim humor. You are welcome.

So my day job is an RN working in Utilization Management. I sent it along to my fellow UN RM's in arms and it was quite the hit!!!! We ALL feel this way A LOT...esp on a Friday after a long week of chart reviewing patients that have done amazingly complicated things to their body that now require hospital intervention. This made for GREAT stress relief -thanks again :) PS: my HS kiddos also loved it hehe.....

I have often wondered how my parents just happened to have a "congrats" cake with school logo ready for me when I opened my "bfe" from my alma mater.

I know I burned a few keys on the PC checking for DS' nomination updates as it got close to the 31st.
