TLDR: Give yourself some time to unwind before jumping back into the USNA application process.

I made a post earlier this year about my experience with USNA and my backup school, UNC. The single most important piece of advice I can give anyone who received a TWE is this: DO NOT even think about reapplying right now (or for those of you who are still waiting, if you receive a TWE, don't think about reapplying for at least a week). Fill out the preliminary application again if you are really committed and maybe start working on things to make your next application package that much better, however I encourage you to take some time for yourself. The application process and the waiting are extremely stressful and trying to decide where to go to college is not easy.

Everyone has different reasons for wanting to go to an SA. For me it was a strong desire to serve my country, for others it might be simply attending USNA itself. Whatever the reason, get excited about your plan B. "Normal colleges" have so much to offer and you can make your first year incredibly fun if you want. This will probably be your first real taste of "freedom" so don't take that for granted.

For those of you who are going to do ROTC (Army, Navy, or Air Force) be very careful about what you say regarding reapplying. Out of the 20 or so MIDN in my class at NSO, only 1 did not apply to an SA. About 5 of my classmates opened an application to USNA but out of those 5, only 1 actually submitted their application. After a semester of ROTC, all of us realized that we enjoyed where we were. The 1 person who reapplied in my class earned a negative reputation, in part due to this person's obsession with USNA and their failure to understand that NROTC and USNA are very different. If you do choose to reapply, tread carefully. Some active duty (including USNA grads) have a very negative opinion of USNA, rightly or wrongly. Get a feeling for who your advisor is before you tell them that you want to reapply. Coming in on day 1 saying that you're going to reapply comes across very badly, as most people see it as arrogant and dismissive of the program in which you are currently enrolled. If you find that your advisor does not like the idea of you reapplying to USNA, try to find someone else who is (CAUTION: Be careful doing this. Word gets around quickly, especially in small units. You DO NOT want to give your advisor any reason to not like you.). It's equally important to make sure your fellow MIDN like you. Not only will you have more friends, but it will make your first year that much easier. If the upperclassmen in your unit don't like you, chances are they have already let the active duty know to keep an eye out for you. I can only speak to my experience, however I imagine that things are similar elsewhere.

Finally, I want to make it clear that I am not advising people who received TWEs to not reapply. If USNA is something you really want, go for it. Use your active duty and upperclassmen as a resource. Get great grades, improve your PT, and be an active member of your battalion. Make yourself the best you can be so that the decision is yours next spring.
