Good catch Penguin. +1 vote for trollIs he a double major with engineering and military history? Could he try joining NROTC or AROTC as a college programmer for the final two years?
You’re obviously not a lawyer, nor have you ever spoken to one. No lawyer would take such a case even for triple his regular fee because it would be entirely frivolous. Maybe if you were Harvard people instead of Yale, you’d understand that you are supposed to read a contract before you sign it.law suit coming
No, you won't have to pay it back. Yes, it is silly. However, that's just the way it goes. An AFROTC scholarship is chump change to the Air Force. They really couldn't care less if one person gets screwed over. I know you-know-who is gonna jump down my throat for saying this, but as long as you kick butt in every category (grades, commander's ranking, fitness, AFOQT) you'll get selected. Even this year, the selection rate was around 50%. That means 1 out of every 2 cadets was selected. If you've got straight A's and don't get selected for an EA, then you're lacking in some other category. That's the harsh truth, and I'll stand by it knowing full well it could have been me in his son's shoes had I joined a few years later.Do they bounce type 1s? I somehow got it without a STEM requirement and I do not intend to do STEM. Would I have to pay my scholarship back if I don't get selected? It seems silly on the AF's behalf to pay for two years of a cadet's schooling and then not get anything out of it.
Elections have consequences. Who did you vote for?no you should actually be honest with 18 year olds and not lie to them if the make perfect straight A's and wake up at 6 am that they will still get kicked out. If I had known there were people like you I would have told him to run. You are the most repulsive person I have ever met. My son ins the most capable person but that is incompatible with people like you that are entitled.
That’s what she said.He certainly has lasted the longest
Who exactly are you calling in the morning? And what is your obsession with wanting people to call you?calling in the morning. That was a bad decision. Be ready for the call
I spoke to a pilot who said several years ago they reduced pilots slots but “stashed” people who wanted to fly in another slot until they needed them. Do you know anything about this? If so could it happen again? My personal opinion after talking to current pilots is that it will be a short blip. When the airlines shut down hiring many pilots who were planning on leaving the AF put the brakes on that plan. However, most of them did not take the retention bonus so they can quickly restart the separation plan and leave. Because airlines really like military pilots and they were only 20-30% of the airlines hiring before covid, I think you’ll see the AF pilots jump into airline seats fairly quickly once travel picks up (it already has). A few bold souls actually took the opportunity to put in Palace Chase paperwork and will be the first out the door. I think the pilot slots will return sooner rather than later. However, if I really had a crystal ball and knew the answer I’d be selling my services to AFPC.

Yes my son was a type 1 military history major with a very good record at the ROTC. I was told he was top third. He didn't check "rated" box (pilot) and he got bounced. Straight A's. So if you're non-Stem and you are not in the "rated" category you are at much higher risk, we have now learned from my experience and what the ROTC leader told us after the fact.Do they bounce type 1s? I somehow got it without a STEM requirement and I do not intend to do STEM. Would I have to pay my scholarship back if I don't get selected? SOA offers mom for xmasI was cooking bacon. What did I miss?
A few of them did nothing but attack. As a mom, I totally understand that you are upset. (No, I did not read the fine print either on DS's AROTC scholarship (incoming freshman), but thanks to this thread, I will now.)
If your kid still wants to be in the military there are still a ton of ways. And if he has a piece of paper from Yale, with or without the AF, he will be ok. (With straight As and two years at Yale and a good record at AFROTC, he could probably get into USAFA if he really wanted to!)
The mods and the old-timers on here don't sugarcoat anything and tell it like it is, they are not here to attack you or your son. They are actually here to help the forum members. Figure out a plan B. Life goes on. Good luck.

I was told the Army is actually adding people and is not the same. But I only have one data point. Read your "contract" carefully however as I have now learned as it's not the same as what the recruiter or the people that stand in front of 350 people at school tell you.Is the army generally safe with what's going on? As in, are they at risk of letting go 50% of cadets like what AF ROTC did?
I apologize, but I'm not very well-versed as to what's going on.
I super sorry for your family. IMO, this is one of the downsides of the ROTC route. Both my guys had ROTC and SA offers. And knowing that, at some point in he ROTC program, they would be COMPETING for commissioning as an officer was for sure on the negative side of their PROS and CONS list. And that as long as they completed the SA program, they WOULD commission, was a PRO on the SA list. Here is what kids need to know that "NO ONE" told my family. 1) Be a stem major to be safer 2) Select Type Rating For my son with straight A's it was not enough after two years and good performance in the unit. He was above 50% but a military history major and he got bounced. So if you fit the first two it's a good gamble. If you don't it's a roll of the dice. It's sad to see a A student kicked to the curb and that's what they just did.
