Has anyone received an acceptance into the prep school? And can some one explain how prep school acceptances work. How are they given out? I received a nomination for USAFA and a recommendation for the prep school. Does a recommendation for the prep school guarantee an acceptance into the prep school and do they commonly give out recommendations in mass amounts or is it rare to receive a prep school rec. thanks

Sorry, the recommendation is not a guarantee into acceptance into the P school. Each year approximately 240 cadet candidates are accepted into the program. The selection committee will "tag" USAFA candidates that they think show promise but could use an additional year of preparation for consideration for the Prep school.
The self-reporting threads are a small sample size, but does not really indicate that acceptances are sent out in a large mass announcement, but the majority were released later in the application cycle (e.g. April). Hang in there - try to enjoy your senior year. Good Luck.
As an aside, stats for the Class of 2018 include 237 cadet candidates admitted into the Air Force Academy Prep School, 206 graduated, and 195 received appointments to the USAFA.

The only way that you can get a guarantee recommendation to the prep school is if you are prior enlisted. We have a box on our 1786 that asks us if we want to try for the Academy then the prep school or just the prep school. I was accepted to the prep school about a month ago and if you have any questions please PM me.
